Gas gauge doesn't read FULL with a full tank on my new 300

    Good Evening, Gang!

Hello again, Just a quick question for the group. As everyone on the board knows, I took delivery of my new 'baby' on Monday. When I picked up my 300 FROM the dealer, I noticed that the gas gauge did not read "FULL" entirely. I ran the car down to approximately a half of a tank of gas (I have 90 miles on her as of Monday!) I refilled the tank this evening, on the way home FROM work and the gauge read the same way that it did when I picked the car up on Monday.. a smidge below the FULL mark, I let the pump click off and removed the nozzle FROM the filler tube. Has anyone here on the board had this same thing happen to their new 300/.Magnum? Should I have the service department CHECK the accuracy of the gauge when I bring the car in for the first oil change/post delivery adjustments visit? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I seem to have caught the "New Car-Itis" bug!

    Sincerely yours,

    Brian T. Carotenuto

There are actually two fuel level sensors on the LX cars. The gas tank is a saddle type so there is one sensor on each side. Mine will on occasion read slightly below full when the tank is full. Happens only when I first start the car. After a couple of miles of driving it will come up to the full mark. It is a dealer item that can be calibrated FROM what I understand. I would just monitor it and if you need to bring it in for any other service have them look at it then. Better to have it read too low than too high. "I can't be out of gas it still shows 1/4 tank".

My Magnum was the same way too. With me, I actually ran out of gas on the first tank because the gauge never went below 1/2 tank (in hindsight I should have realized something was wrong based on the number of miles). Turns out one of the sensors/fuel pumps was defective. Watch your gauge once you get to half a tank ... its possible you have the same problem.
