First Time at the Track! Timeslips and dyno sheets!

Ok, I'll get the timeslips and dyno sheets scanned hopefully monday...

At Etown I had my car dyno'd for the first time ever. I have a few performance mods, but not many, so I thought it'd be fun just to see where I was at. I plan on doing a "baseline" at a local shop and then having that be my "home" dyno for all future mods.

The results were: 305.31 HP and 330.40 TQ
Mods: K&N CAI (63-1114), SLP Loudmouth II Exhaust and Motorad 176* Tstat.

Then I went to Indiana this past tuesday for my first time ever at the track. I'm not sure what the DA was (JMatt???) But the early temps were in the low 80s w/ high humidity and I think it was in the mid to low 70s for my last couple of runs. I got the car down to around 176* for each run. I know the 2nd run I was at 181* and I think the last 2 I was closer to 174*

I know my RT sucks, like I said it was my first time EVER at the track. All and all I was pretty pleased. I did go to the track w/ a 1/2 tank of gas... But I did remember to take out the spare tire and all extra weight I didn't need.

All runs were in D w/ esp off on the dash (I'll have my ESP mod done this weekend) except the 2nd run, which was in autostick, letting the tranny do the shifting. Rear tires were lowered to 30psi and fronts were left at 35psi. The first 2 runs I didn't brake stall the car, the last 2 I had it up around 1000rpm I think... so much was going on and it being my first time I was a bit overwhelmed to notice.

    _______1st Run ___2nd Run ___3rd Run___ 4th Run
    RT ____.696_____ .906______ .313 _____ .561

I think on a cooler day I have a 13 sec car... not sure if I can get the trap into triple digits, but man I'm so close to both it was killing me!!!

Not too shabby for my first time out

Oh and for those of you that want to keep score, I was 1-3 in the win loss dept. Markmysite trounced me in his 300CSRT, I beat a F-250 (lol), got beat by a Nova, and finally lost to a GTO with heads and a cam running some DRs and about 550 HP according to the owner (He couldn't hook up, only beat me by .132)

Any thoughts or comments are welcome (lay off the crappy RTs though, lol)

Back in the muscle car era, 14 sec flat was pretty good. Stock 383 Roadrunners, 389 GTOS, 327 Vettes, 289 Mustangs most of the old muscle cars would do well to match your et's! We won't talk about 427FE's or 426 hemis or 440 6pack cars, or Big Block Chevys. hehe.

I think you ran very well that night. Don't feel bad... my car was running it's best times ever that night for some reason. I'm not sure why with the heat.... but it seems to be getting stronger. My best time that night was a 13.19 @ 106.8 unadjusted... which translates to about a 12.7-12.8 adjusted. Not bad for a stock car with CAI and running in 84 degree weather. I need to get a lower thermostat in pronto.... JMatt got his nitrous in and I have a feeling he's going to lay the smack down very soon ... lol.

It was great to meet up with you. Sorry I couldn't stay longer, but I had a poker tournament that was starting at 8pm so I had to jet. Give me a holler next time you're in town!

No biggie Mark, I figured you were off to do the family thing or something. I'll def give you guys a call next time I'm in the area.

How do I adjust my times? Do you know what the DA was? I'll get you some info on that tstat as it was a little difficult to find, then when I did, the ape behind the counter didn't want to sell it to me because he said it wouldn't work with my car... I told him I had a great source (Meister) that told me it would.

Not bad Chris. Get you butt down here to Florida and hit the track with us. Kris and Lisa have been working hard at getting an LX event out at Morosso each month.

Dan is green too when he drives the Charger, but he already can't wait to do it again on the 21st. Definite when its cooler you will run better.

Hi guys!! Chris - your 14.0x time was great considering the conditions. My best was 13.192 @ 107.16 mph. Two weeks ago I ran 13.10 in 80 degree plus weather. My best at that track was 12.97 in about 50 degrees. You should easily see 13.9x in your car, and maybe even 13.8x.

To you and Mark both: I didn't check the density altitude, because the conditions were so poor I was just running for fun. I'll see if I can find the data somewhere though.

You did awesome for a first timer!!! As I tell everyone - the crowd is much friendlier than you'd expect, and it's much less intimidating thatn you'd expect.

(Have I mentioned ALL of my nitrous parts are now in my garage.........)

Heidi, tell Dan he owes me a race since he pussed out when we went to dinner, hahaha.

Matt - Thanks man! I was pretty surprised at how my car ran. I think I'll go out to the local track in a few weeks and see if I can lay down a high 13. If you get the DA, cool, if not no biggie. I just was curious as to what my corrected time would be.

I had a blast, I hope its just as fun out here as it was there. You'll have to show me the NO2 setup next time I'm in town bro.

Nice job Chris, I haven't hit the track yet in my R/T, but like you said, it could be addictive.

Those are some good times CPL. You had to fight some pretty hot temps, plus it's always tough the first time at the track. It's a must do if you can.

I'm going to try to hit the track next weekend. The g/f pretty much has all my time right now since I've been gone for 6 weeks, lol.

You gotta get that R/T out there bro! You'll have a blast. I think I'm gonna head out to the bike shop and pick up a helmet tommorrow, since I'm knocking on the door of 13s.

Thanks UC, it was good to pop my cherry. Now it's time to hone the skills.

Chris, your post and your results have encouraged me to look into taking a trip to the track. Thanks.

Now concerning this T'stat...whats the benefit? Do you have to combine it with other mods to be helpful? or is it a stand alone mod?

Changing the tstat literally takes 5 min. It'll help keep your engine cooler. I wouldn't go below a 176*, most go w/ a 180* You'll have to couple it w/ a fan mod to get the full effect, I just used the 25 cent fan mod when I was at the track and my temps were always low. I think Mark said w/ his stock tstat on his SRT he was around 190*ish for his runs.
