    First On-the-Street "Hey There!"

Yesterday afternoon I was going home from a holiday church choir rehearsal, when I pulled up next to this tired old red pickup with what appeared to be a teenager or young 20s driver. While we were waiting for the light to change, he waved for me to open the passenger window, which I did.

"That thing got the "Hemi" in it?" he said. I said "Yes, it does." He said, "Le'me hear it." So I put the AT in Park and hit the gas a little. "That's Sweeeeeeet!" was the response. I said "THANKS!"

Then the light changed and we went our separate ways... that never happened to me in the former Subaru... or my Town & Country for that matter!

I got the same thing on last wednesday from a guy in a G35 except he pulled up next to me in the light and started inching to the crosswalk line looking at me.....so I turned off the ESP and gave him a little burnout until he started coughing.....

None the less we went our own seperate ways and he never pulled up again...

Funny how many people just HAVE to ask....

I checked into a motel up the coast on Saturday. Parked behind three Harleys in front of the lobby. Walked into the lobby. Three large, out-of-state, leather-laden bikers standing there looking as mean as they can. Started eyeballing me. The biggest one stares at me, nods out the window to my Magnum, and growls "That thing got a Hemi?"

"Yep" I says gruffly (Mightily relieved. I weigh 150 soaking wet).

"What kind of mileage you get?" 300lb Growler asks.

Now I don't usually tempt fate, but I really, really, really HATE that question. Even more than "That thing gotta Hemi?

"You don't buy one of these things and worry about f*** mileage." I hear myself saying.

Fortunately the three of them had a good laugh, walked out, mounted their trusty steeds, and roared off.

So... I'm curious. I've never done a "burnout" nor would I probably... but just how does one do that? Stand on the brake and gun the engine? Guess I'm so "cheap" I can't imagine losing all that rubber... :waah:

Saturday coming home from shopping, I was driving slowly through a residential area when I saw some teens walking towards me. I was on the phone to hubby when I noticed one of the boys staring at the Magnum. When he saw he had my attention, he gave me a big thumbs up. So I returned the gesture with the left hand, whilst still holding the cell phone with the right hand and giving it some throttle, leaving them in my wake. I think that's first real thumbs up I've received. Kinda fun.

I would love to a big burn out too but Rick says that I will break something. Unfortunately every time he has warned against something and I have done it anyway it has gone as badly as he predicted. I think I married a freakin' Ward Cleaver! :-P

Oh I have told him I am going to some day. We just went over 8,000K and I have noticed with the colder weather and once past the magic 7,000k mark there does seem to be more power and better mpg. I can almost go two weeks of work days without filling the gas tank now. Magnificent beasts aren't they?

Awe, come on! Light 'em up!! Just be sure you drive a few miles before getting home to dissipate the burnt rubber smell.
My daughter has busted me a couple of times when pulling in the driveway, especially at the end of the life of the Conti's. I get a lot more hook up with the BFG KDW 255/55/18's, a lot more rubber on the road!
I've even lit 'em while already going about 20 mph with the KDW tires on!!
Have some fun, that's what these are for, right??

I remember being in a 62 Ranchero with a boyfriend doing a burn out down by the lake when I was about 16. The drive line dropped with a sickening thud. I always envision this if I try a burn out. I told him I'm going to do it though and he is going to be filming. In the meantime I get on the freeway every morning at WOT. Woohoo!

nahh..don't worry about it...everyone in their lives at one point or another has done a "burnout"....getting mad at someone and taking it out on the car....gunning it out of a gas station...etc...etc...

but a standing burnout...with your foot on the brake and the car still in drive....you turn off the ESP and step on the gas with the brake still depressed and there you go!!!!! DO NOT REMOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE BRAKE!!!!or you will fly into something!!!!

NOW PLEASE DO NOT TRY THIS ON A PUBLIC STREET!!!!!!! EMPTY PARKING LOTS ARE SAFER FOR YOU AND OTHERS AROUND YOU>!!!!! I'M NOT PROMOTING RECKLESS DRIVING ONLY EDUCATING ON WHAT A BURNOUT IS!!!!

I've done burn outs in cars that I've built, but never in one that I purchased new. The closest I've come to this are patches of rubber in-between shifts. Maybe I'm just too cheap to lay down that much rubber in one instance. I love watching them though.

At least they didn' eat you

Bikers are an interesting lot. I have two of them follow me up I 95 every morning on my way to my office (about 6 miles)

They just hang with me as we go back and forth between 60 and 90.

We wave good bye and thumb up each other every day as I get off my exit and they keep going. It's like a daily ritual

One of them looks like Hulk Hogan

If they stopped with me, I'd probably s..t my pants.
