I've searched around the forum for a couple days and I've still got a couple questions I was hoping you guys could help me with. (2006 300c srt8 in black)
First I really like the look of de moulding the car but I'm nervous about the quality of paint under the moulding. Biggest concern is the bubbling, what I've read so far is the bubbling is most common on the 2005 model is this correct? Also will the paint be different under the moulding. I'd hate to remove moulding and have an obvious stripe where the moulding was as it wasn't out in the elements.
Window trim...I recently Plasti dipped the trim and I really like it in black but I'm looking for a more permanent fix. I've read all about purchasing the lower Magnum moulding but the upper part is what confuses me. Is the upper chrome piece not necessary? Some of the threads I've seen seem to point in that direction. Of course I'd be concerned about rain etc getting in unless the chrome piece is purely cosmetic.
Halo headlights...I'm assuming the halo is in addition to the regular headlights? May be a stupid question but I've not seen that addressed yet and I've been more than curious about that.
I think that's it for my questions tonight. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help out this noob.
Chris
Welcome.
When you de-mould your car, remove all the glue and a light wetsand will be the MOST you'll need. I didn't need it on my 06, but I've helped a few and 1 guy did it just to do it (he didn't really need it either, but it really depends on your level of perfectionism). There probably won't be a noticeable difference to the eye, but if you rub your hand against it, you may notice something. I've never seen the bubbling but I have heard about it in legend from the stories of the elders. lol.
Window trim? I'ONT KNOW NUTTIN BOUT NO DAWGONE WINDOW TRIM!!!
Halos: AAC and you're done. You'll either have to send them your headlights or buy the kit and do it yourself. It's DIY'able tho.
So don't do it. Cause your will never know for sure until you try it. I personally know a local guy that tried it with his 08, the paint is all messed up. Needs to be repainted or the molding put back on. But then some are fine. I'm never chancing it.First I really like the look of de molding the car but I'm nervous about the quality of paint under the molding. Biggest concern is the bubbling
The halos I have read are troublesome. They don't last too long & are a PITA to replace if you ever have to.
The window trim I have the same question on. It's not the bottom molding it's the chrome top of the window molding around the top of the windows. I don't see how that comes off.
I am probably not part of this legend passed down by the elders that you speak of but I had the bubble issue on my BS 06 3.5L a couple years back and had to put the door mouldings back on
Don't believe me then check this post out for pictures:

At first it was assumed that all the 05 and early 06 models had this issue until those few 05 models demoulded and had no bubbles or paint issues at all and same goes for most 06 models but I always thought all the 07 and up models had the issue fixed but I guess you never know.
Yes the upper chrome window strip on each door is optional. You will need to remove the mirror and the lower window trim to remove it on the front doors. and the same on the rears. You can go without it no problem, as the V6 cars do not even have it.
When i removed my side molding, you could deff notice the line... but after a good buff and wax it was very hard to see any imperfections. My cars been completely repainted now though.
I say go for it, it looks 100 times better off and is worth the risk imo. Just be carefull taking it off,a heat gun will help, 3M tape isnt that expesive if you decide to put it back on.
I plasti dipped my window trim aswell, i like it, find it matches the matte pillar post pretty good. And my wheels lol
Dont buy Ebay Halo headlights, go for the oracle kit. There should be a handful of shops around that will install them for you in a few hours if you dont want to attempt it.
demoulding...just do it. take your time and don't damage the molding when you pull it off. if you see the paint is no good then just put it right back on. it's very easy. i took mine off and found bad paint, so put it right back on...nothing lost in trying.
halos...flashtechs are good and cheaper than AAC, the new ones they got out are 14v-rated too vs the 12v rated aac ones...just saying...as far as install goes if you're doing it yourself you pretty much just remove the fascia (front bumper), remove the headlights, bake them at 10-15 min intervals at about 250 F, peel the lights open, mount the halos inside, pull the wiring through the back, seal it all back up and re-install. very time consuming, but very do-able as well.
