    Cost for a patch these days

    Guys what is the going rate to patch a tire and balance it. I was told by one shop it would cost 20 and another shop said 25. Is this the going rate?

    Well, I guess everything is not better in NY.

    Our local tire store does patches for free. Dismount tire, prep, inside patch, remount and rebalance.

    Actually your price sounds reasonable.

    based on time and labor rates... that seems about right!

    ^^ Bob just curious on why you do not trust them? So once you get a nail/ slow leak, you buy new tires? I don't like the idea of a plug so I got a patch recently for $8. No balancing though.

    About 6 months ago I got a screw in my Toyo's.
    Cost $10 for a plug.
    I don't like the idea of a patch because of the potential damage to my rims. Plug has worked great, and no slow leak.

    10 for a patch here. No plugs, plugs are bad, my tire shop won't even don't even do them. Sure a plug will stop a leak, but they run a real risk of severing the steel belts in the tire. That's why no-one around here does them any more.

    If you like plugs, buy the kit at Walmart and do it yourself, why pay someone to do that.

    If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

    i have worked at discount tire for 8 years. i have fixed hundreds of tires. lol.

    we wont work on gum plugged tires. the wax in the gum plugs dry out and allow normal moisture to get into the steel belts and rust them out causing tire failure. do not use gum or "gas station" plugs they will eventualy fail.

    we use RMA (Rubber Manufacture Association) approved rubber plugs and patches that last the life of the tire.

    for your own safety do not use fix o flat or gum plugs. they suck.

    and flat repairs are free from us even if you don't buy your tires there. why pay to get it done at a shop that doesn't specialize in only wheels and tires when we do it right for free?

    At speeds well above the legal limit, I don't want to take a chance.
    Our cars are capable of HIGH speeds, so why take a chance.

    Cop cars don't fix their tires, they put on a new tire.

    That's good enough for me.

    I fix motor bike tyres aswell as cars,we use the plugs and they last the life of the tyre and stop moisture getting in which causes failures.Plugs are fine n dandy for our cars.However in the UK we cannot repair a tyre if its outside the central 3/4 of the tread(where it starts to curve basically)dunno if its the same in the States??
