Chrysler considering sleeker, more aerodynamic profile for next 300

    Hi Guys!!

    I hope you're OK.

    From edmunds.com

"At Chrysler, insiders say the company is studying how best to redesign the big Chrysler 300 sedan, with one proposal said to involve a move away from the current upright, boxy silhouette to a sleeker, more aerodynamic profile in order to enhance fuel economy."

Click on http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do...TOKEN=92550765 to read the story.

All of this is in response to the 35-MPG CAFE. If it goes through - it could drastically alter Detroit's future product plans. No Ford Interceptor. No big RWD Impala's, etc.

I say - there is no need for Chrysler to move all that far away from the upright, boxy look in order to become more aerodynamic. My 1993 Lexus LS400 isn't 'sleek' or 'swoopy' looking and it has a drag coefficient of just 0.29. The new LS460's are 0.25.The current 300's are 0.34 - I believe. So sure - smooth out a few 'things' like the side windows, door mirrors and undercarriage [Which is what Lexus did with the LS] but KEEP the 'boxy' LOOK.

Oh please keep the upright, boxy silhouette!!

Yeah the last 300 design was all swoopy and did nothing for me. We'll see.

Heh, I kinda wish they'd make it a little more sharp on the edges, like some of the newer Cadillac sedans.

I thought the last design before this one was sleek and more aerodynamic? hopefully, they will do something like the chronos.

No, they are not going to screw it up! When the first generation of Intrepids, Concordes and Eagles came out they were a huge step forward in design (the whole cab forward idea). Then the 2nd generation (300M, etc.) was another success story. You saw tons of Intrepids on the road. And I remember when the first 300C was shown a lot of people with 300Ms were protesting the boxy design. Yet, it became a huge success. I trust Chrysler's design team to come up with another big success, even though it might be different from the current designs. Just like the oil crisis in the 70ties they might be forced to come up with something else to appeal to the general public. I am glad though that they did come out with the LX platform and hope to enjoy driving mine for many years to come.

The Chronos was originally designed for a V-10 but I doubt they will revive that. I would hate to see them go back to something out dated. The whole gangster look is great and Chrysler needs to do something like that again. Even if it was to go back to suicide doors and a bigger green house. Everyone loves a car that looks like it is unique.
