    Auto dimming mirror help

Okay, I have a Charger SSE+ and bought what was supposed to be an auto dimmming rear view mirror out of a 2008 300. What I got was definitely an auto dimming rear view mirror, but there's more to it than just the mirror. There is also a large module that sits on the mount in front of the mirror with a light sensor in it separate from the sensor that is in the mirror itself. Can anyone help me figure out if this is actually from a 300, and if so, what is this other module for?? There are 12 wires coming out of the connector that goes into the back of the mirror. Part number appears tp be 58020441ab

    does it look like this?

if so, #1 is a rain sensor for automatic wipers and #4 is a digital camera for SMART BEAM automatic high beams.

    btw, welcome to LXforums.

It doesn't have the rain sensor. I have been doing a little research. Did a part number search and discovered it is the smartbeam module. The mirro itself is a lot more bulky than what you pictured. Next question. Is it possible to get the smartbeam connected and working on my Charger, and where would one go about getting the harnesss to make it work. I originally only wanted just the autodimming mirror, but since this one has the built in smartbeam and u-connect stuff, I'll try to get it all working.

you might be able to get the uconnect working but pretty sure the smartbeam will require a modified vehicle build configuration file. AFAIK, only chrysler can do this.

If u can have the fog lights enabled on a vehicle that didn't come with factory fogs, you should be able to enable this option.

The Smart Beam is initialized by an electronic board at the plant while we do the headlight aim. No idea how they'd do it afterwards, of course there has to be a way.

So basically, the camera and the "brain" for the smartbeam are initialized to make sure the system works the way it's designed to, and without this electronic board it wouldn't know when to switch from high beam to low beam?

Basically yes. BUT....there must be a way for it to be done afterwards. All good things malfunction at some time therefore must be reprogrammed or whatever. I'll be in the plant this afternoon and will do some research for you.

It is possible, and as I now notice you have a 2008 car it is likely the harness is already there. As these guys can't get into too much details...and it was getting over my head, he believes a starsscan can activate it, but he also added you may need to get the dealer to do the activation, but it is possible.

The harness may be up to the pillar, but I'd still need the harness from the pillar to the mirror. At least that was my understanding from reading threads where people have installed just a u-connect mirror.
