    2007 ESP calibration procedure

    Hi everybody!

I have read in many posts that you should do the following procedure to recalibrate the ESP when you have reconnected the battery:

    ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)
If the vehicle is equipped with ESP, once the battery is reconnected, the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) needs to be
calibrated. The SAS requires calibration anytime the battery or an ABS (ESP) component has been disconnected for
any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:
    1. Start the engine.
    2. Center the steering wheel.
    3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left until the internal stop in the steering gear is met, then turn the
wheel all the way to the right until the opposite internal stop in the steering gear is met.
    4. Center the steering wheel.
    5. Stop the engine.
But I have bought Haynes Repair Manual on eBay and it is said the following in this book:

the following (above in my message) procedure does not apply to 2007 models, on which the SAS must be recalibrated with a factory scan tool. If the SAS is not recalibrated immediately after reconnecting the battery or reconnecting an ABS component, the ESP/SAS indicator lamp will flash continuously until the SAS is recalibrated, though it won't set any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs).
Please be as kind as to tell me if this information is correct, or not? If it is, then I'll only have to visit my dealer to recalibrate ESP and SAS.

    Thanks in advance.

Well, is your indicator flashing? Seems silly that they would remove the self-calibrating feature. Haynes isn't always that thorough, or correct. Chilton seems to have the best manuals (next to the factory manuals). Anyway, hopefully one of our techs can chime in :-)

    No, thanks God, it isn't.

I agree with you. I just wanted to know this for sure, because this is your safety.

    Thanks for the information.

Well I would be very grateful to any of them!

    this is the correct procedure
    ELECTRONIC STABILITY PROGRAM (ESP)
If the vehicle is equipped with ESP, once the battery is reconnected, the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) needs to be
calibrated. The SAS requires calibration anytime the battery or an ABS (ESP) component has been disconnected for
any length of time. To calibrate, perform the following:

    2. Center the steering wheel.
    3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left until the internal stop in the steering gear is met, then turn the
wheel all the way to the right until the opposite internal stop in the steering gear is met.
    4. Center the steering wheel.
    5. Stop the engine.

the ESP/BAS warning lamp may illuminate until the SAS (steering angle sensor) is initialized.

not likely. U1418 is a loss of wheel speed message.

has this DTC been properly diagnosed or was a sensor just thrown at it in hopes it would fix it?
