    2006 300c Hit a curb hard. Now ESP-BAS on!

2 nights ago in the rain, I hydroplaned (I think) and started fishtailing very violently all over the road and hit a center median curb with the rear driver side wheel tearing 1/2 rim off the wheel. I dont see any damage to the front wheels and dont think I hit them on anything. Tire is Ok and held air. I replaced the wheel accidently with an 07 instead of an 06. the seller will swap it Tuesday. The center of the steering wheel is at about the 10:00 position when the car is traveling straight. Believe it or not the car runs pretty damn straight concidering what happened. The tire pressure monitor worked with the smashed up wheel and is still reading the pressure accurately with the new one.

Ok, here is the problem. I drove about 100 miles on the spare (the TPM system didnt pick up the spare for about 20 miles) buying the new wheel and had the tire mounted. A short time after that I noticed that my ESP-BAS light stays on. I disconnected the battery for a 1/2 hour and pulled codes using the on-acc-on-acc-on-acc proceedure and no codes appeared . "done" and then the engine light flashed 9 times.

Is the ESP-BAS light on because the steering wheel is way off center in relation to the front wheels? Will a 4 wheel alignment straighten the steering wheel out? If not how do I do it myself before taking it to the stealer to get it fixed under warranty. I'm sure if they figure out what happend they'l tell me FU.

    Thanks

Most likely is is becuse the wheel is off so much. And, most likely if the wheel is off that far you bent something, and that the dealer will not cover.

THere is a location on your inner wheel well were you connect the ABS senssor(I think this is what it's called). They have a small c-clip that keeps the wire from the rotor connected to the fender well. See if any of them came loose. HTH

Yes that is correct Rander it is probably that sensor. Or the other sensor that detects the torque of the rim. You probably hit the curb so hard that you knocked one of the sensors loose. The dealer WILL take care of it just tell them what happened and they have a check list they can go through to find out.

Mine came on and they couldn't figure out why, they thought it was a bad sensor at first come to find out all it was was the torque on my left rear wheel was off and they ended up fixing it in 5 minutes.

Thanks guys. Makes sense, since it didnt come on until they put the new wheel on. Maybe it was barely hangin on and got knocked off when they put the new wheel on. I'll check it.

If there is no damage to the sensor, or the sensor retainer/connector I would suspect that there is something bent in the front end. The Esp/Bas runs through the SAS (Steering Angle Sensor). If it is just a matter of alignment, with no damaged parts, shouldn't cost more than 60 bucks to align. If there are bent components, that's another issue. You say the wheel is off to the 10 o'clock position, and the car tracks straight. I wou definately have the alignment checked. If you have access to a starscan, you can pull the codes from the ABS module as well as the SAS module.

    Hope this helps ya.

I checked the sensor at the rear wheel. All intact, no sign of damage or impact of any kind. I think the steering wheel being at 11:00 in relation to the front wheels might be setting things off. I will get an alignment tomorrow and see if getting the steering wheel straight will correct the problem. Opinions???
