What do you use to paint the pointers? Thanks
Paint (for custom colors I should say)
That's how he did mine...along with colored LEDs too.
You could have white pointers during the day and have blue LEDs light them up at night (which is what Tim is thinking of doing to his).
It's so cool!
I believe he ordered pointers already done in Red, Orange, White, Blue etc. Green and Yellow would be custom colors. Someone could even do a Purple!
oh boy... another one for the wish list... I've been looking for a new cluster for a little while now. You guys seem to be what I've been looking for
So is this just a single color???? or are you able to change the colors of the LED lighting?
I'm assuming it's only a single color since I dont see any type of color changing controller.

MOD LIST: C/F Hammer, Flowmaster Ex, FRI-Sidewinder Cam, Gibson Headers, Predator, B.T. Ported T.B., Lil Silver Box, Red Illum Rear Wing, Blue Angel Eyes, Yellow HID FOGs, 09 Intake, CTP Spacers, SRT Rails & Injectors, SRT Rear w/3.55 Gears and 2010 R/T Axles....What's Next?
Good idea but it would be a new projet. It would require a controller too if you wanted to tie it into the RPM etc... Quite doable however...
The other thing with the LEDs is these things are super brite. They have to be to get enough light through the little hole in tha face plate. RGB leds are simply not brite enough for the job... So you would need a board packed with two sets of LED colors and switch between them... It can be done but would take some effort...

When I did Niks pointers I used yellow hobby paint (about three coats) and after that dried I laid down a base coat of white out. The white out gives a solid light blocking to the backside of the yellow paint...
I think next time I might try and see what can be done with spary paint... Painting pointers is not hard but like any artwork you need to take your time...
Also, getting the correct color LEDs for a custom job is very important. When we got yellow LEDs for Niks kit the yellow looked more amber... Had to scrap them and use white LEDs with a yellow GEL over them to get the proper effect.
I do not mind doing custom work but folks need to understand it takes some effort (trial & error) to get it right...
Sick!!! What's the life on these? Hate to have to do the work over again in a year!

Good question...
If the resisors are sized right and there are no defects the LEDs are supposed to last ~ 10,000 hrs. The v1 kit relied on wire to wire solder connections that caused some issues with loose connections. Using circuit boards should resolve this issue and increase reliability.
I've been running my set-up for almost two years with no issues at all... I know of two cases however where some v1 lights were reported to be "Flickering". That is an indication of a loose connection. LEDs either work or they don't... If this were to happen I will work to correct it... But I really do not expect to see this with the v2 design.

Question .... do the pointer lights dim when the dash lights are dimmed? I drive with my dash lights dimmed - it'd be cool if these were bright against the dim dash ....

Tim,
I got a buddy from Hawaii who is going to check this post tonight in hopes of being one of the first 10.
Where does that list stand as of now?
I am here! I hope I do make this list. Very very interested after seeing Nik's and Ralph's V1's. Thanks Nik for updating me on this.
im really interested but do you have white needles with red lighting?
