Corsa Xtreme install problem: system is too short??

This weekend, my buddy helped me install my Corsa Xtreme (Corsa# 14440) on my 2006 300c SRT8.

We got the OEM exhaust off with no problem. We started off following the Corsa directions, sliding the X-pipe onto the OEM cats about 3/8” and then snugging the clamps. We then moved to the left and right angled pipes, and then finally to the muffler/tip assembly.

The problem that we encountered is that no matter how we assembled it, and no matter what order we assembled it, the entire thing seemed to be about 4” too short. Our final attempt was to hang the muffler/tips on the factory hangers, then the left/right angled pipes. We then attached the X-pipe to that…….and we were about 4” away from the cats. The instructions say to push the whole thing forward so that the hangers were angled forward. We did push them as far forward as they would go, so far that they were hitting the suspension member on the left side. But even with everything pushed forward, we were still a good 1”-2” away from the cat.

It seemed like everything would go so much smoother if we could just extend the cat (or the x-pipe) about 4”. We called around for about 2 hours, trying to find a local exhaust shop that would sell us about a foot of 2.75” tubing. We struck out everywhere. What is super funny is that I live about 10 minutes from Corsa’s factory…..but nobody was answering the phone there at 1PM on a Saturday.

Our solution was to cut about 4” off the flared 2.75” tubing off the front of the OEM exhaust ,and use this as an “extension”. With this 4” extension in place, the exhaust fits perfect, hangs straight and true in the hangers. The tips look good, nice and even. Everything just looks and fits perfectly.

Has anyone else ever has a Corsa that seemed “too short”??

4" too short sounds like you ended up with part of the challenger system. They are shorter than LX's by a similar margin.

That's what I was thinking. Corsa systems generally line up great.

    Stock catback, and stock drivetrain

Aw crap, Johnny. That's the right part number, but it sure sounds like you got the extension pipe for a Challenger. The rear stuff should all be the same. Was the part number on all of the boxes?

We did check the part number on the boxes, and both boxes said “Corsa# 14440, Box 1 of 2” (and 2 of 2). 14440 IS definitely the correct # for the Charger/Magnum/300 SRT vehicles with the 6.1L engine. I was aware that the xtreme system for the Chally part# is different, but I thought it was because the Chally gets the dual square tips on each side, while the Charger/300/Maggie get the single round tip on each side. I knew nothing about a different length.

The instruction sheet that come with it gives part#’s for each component of the system, and the stickers on each pipe did match up correctly with the stickers But…..who is to say that the Corsa assembly employee didn’t weld up a shorter Chally x-pipe, and slap a wrong sticker onto it.

Dunno……does anybody have any measurements of the length of the correct x-pipe out of the 14440 system?

take a ride down to Corsa since you live so close and ask em wth. you couldn't have a better opportunity to bring the piece and show them what is wrong so it can be attended to.

lmao! If I had not picked up the system directly from Corsa 15 minutes before dropping it off at your house, I might agree.
It appears as though they simply tagged that x-pipe with the wrong part number.
Let me know if you have any trouble dealing with Corsa, and I will get it straightened out.
