Long story, I got excited
Wow, thanks for putting this online.
It’s been a fun ride to get to this point. I bought my 2008 Charger brand new, my first new car ever, in December of 2008. I had met Popeye’s hemi at work in 2007; we are both retired Coastie’s. His 300 was pretty impressive. So in February 2009, I bought a K&N CAI and haven’t stopped since. My first time run in April was 13.65 @ 101 MPH. that was with a Diablo, the CAI and 180 T-stat. Not bad for a car that advertised to run 14.7 @ 97 MPH stock.
Thru Popeye (Jeff) I met Mango Bill, and they put my first cam, 6.1 headers and mids in. They let me change all the valve springs etc. lol. I can’t express just how much help they have been, late calls dumb questions etc. Anyone in the Maryland area should PM them for any work before they open their wallets. They know these cars inside and out. I added a ghetto Cat back, and got my first custom tune from Johan. 13.3. I won some rounds, made it to the finals 2x that year. I really wanted to get into the 12s.
So in the fall of 2010 I added a 3000 stall TC, Bill had a lift by then and he and Jeff and I finished it in about 3 hours. I ran a 12.87 at bud’s creek with borrowed DRs From Bill. What a rush. Then the TC failed one day just cruising to work, and proceeded to send chunks and pieces threw my tranny. And that’s how I got introduced to Builder Bill. I had the car towed to Mango Bills and he pulled the tranny and I got a rebuild kit from Builder Bill, a 3000 stall Paramount TC, and an AFI flex plate, stage two valve body. A MTCM was added to take care of the TC cycling in third. I bought DRs for the track. DIABLO updates allowed me to shift at 6400 and run out to 6700 in auto stick. Last year I was running 12.7ish consistently.
I talked to Mango Bill and Jeff and ordered a 3.06 Getrag. Mango Bill and I changed it out in 2.5 hours. Result 12.6, and I ran 12.49 2x last fall.
Now I really wanted to get into the 11s. People told me I could not do it, without boost. So I decided to stay N/A and get the car into the 11s. 11.8 Specifically. So I made the round of vendors, most said it couldn’t be done or couldn’t be done without time in their shop, on their dyno etc. I ended up talking to Dave Weber; I had purchased a TB and some other goodies from him. I simply told him what I wanted to do, and that I wanted to get another 50k miles out of the car. He simply said YES. Then he sent me the list of what I would need. He said he had a new cam design that he was sure I would like.
I talked with Builder Bill, and he recommended a 3500 stall TC. I sent the list to Johan and had a new tune in like 5 minutes, man is he awesome. I drove to Modern Muscle Performance Group and picked up the heads and cam etc. Dave actually had Pizza waiting for me and my GF, on a Saturday. . Mango Bill did 80% of the work Jeff and I helped with the final install. A few datalogs later and I’m at the track.
What can I say, this thing is a beast. 11.889, and there’s some more in it. This cam is insane! Its pulls pretty strong till 3500, then it hits like a rocket. It pulls hard all the way to 6700. Builder Bill was spot on the TC. The weekend after that we drove 1600 miles for a long weekend. Flawless. And get this, 22.2 MPG round trip. I did the math. That’s 80 mph with the A/C on and a few high speed runs, well ok more than a few. I’m getting 19 MPG daily driving.
I can’t thank Modern Muscle Performance Group, Dave and Chris, Paramount Performance and diablotoona@gmail.com enough.

Congrats on getting into the 11's! What was your race weight?

Thanks! Belive it or not race weight ( weighed at capital raceway last year) is 4300 with me in it. the runs above I removed the spare and jack, and I had 5/8 tank of gas, vice the usual 1/8-1/4. So I think theres more in it, and more in it with practice as well! Im thinking of front runners and maybe I can get a low 11.8. maybe a 11.7 with great air and a tail wind.
