this may be an outsider's perspective, but i kind of thought there wasnt consistency to the show awards.
example, GSO won an award for LOOKING fast
hemiphil won an award for theme. didnt know he had one really.
hemicanucksfan won daily driver one year, and weekend driver the next.
to me, seemed like lots of awards without definition. admittedly, im not a show car kind of person, so i may be quite wrong.
racing wise, it seemed alright. i'm sure the series is changing for next year, as the cars get faster etc. my biggest issue was not being able to hear the announcements, and then the one guy from the track yelling at everyone in the staging lanes. lol
thats all ive got right now.
anthony- heres some suggestions.
just for shawn (and halo owners)... best light show (judged on Saturday night at host hotel).
best wheels class (open to 22" or smaller )
stock, mild custom, and full custom classes
People's Choice award(s) for 1st gen LX, 2nd gen LX, and LC.
combine some of the classes.
if someone wins a top award say one year, back to back wins should be justified by the judges seeing significant modification or that nobody compares in that class again.
longest trip award (accompanied with gas cards)
This event goes on due to the sponsors; however, i heard so many say 'where's the vendors/sponsors?'....'i was hoping to buy this part or this accessory, etc'.
i realize several sponsors showed up to race only (essentially showing off their product/engine building/tuning) but LX owners come from all over and its nice to be able to purchase things at a reasonable discount, no shipping, even offer minor onsite installs. its great that they sponsor at any level but if they dont show up to support the car show participants and/or racers, and/or offer their products, then they are just a name on a shirt/banner/website. and just there advertising without actual product for sale doesnt do much for me. there were some large vendors in 2010 but didnt return this year (maybe not enough business/attendance).
It would be cool if chrysler and/or srt brought some vehicles that you drive around (or at least get a ride in) a little course/on the road/dragstrip (like SF6)
The A&W cruise-in was not attended as well as expected. seemed like others went elsewhere such as Quaker Steak, so maybe a change of venue for Friday night. then on Saturday night, meet/eat at new venue. possibly add a cruise to Summit Racing (from the track or from the hotel) or find some good roads to cruise somewhere. or little cookout/BBQ caterer at the hotel saturday night.
hotel needs the lot segregated for us so there are no worries of door dings/minivan full of kids grazing side of car with toy sword/old person pushing gas instead of brake pedal.
im sure the track rental for 2 days is pretty steep hence the typical entry fees, but im sure several didnt attend due to the cost for racing. or some were just spectators/M&G instead.
definitely need to do more advertising for the show right here in our backyard of OHIO!! im sure the BLX can spread the word locally. you will need to come up for the junction show next june (280+ mopars with ~40 LX/LCs) or start talking with mike(owner), who came out on sunday with the FF SRT8. theres always cruisin times and big al's list too.
cant wait to see what you put together for next year!!
ill be there of course.
'07 Charger R/T Steel Blue: 300SRT rims,aFe2,Flowmaster catback,Predator,BT blue stuff,Petty strut brace
I like all of the suggestions so far. It was a fun time this year and any changes will be for the better.
2010 CHALLENGER SRT8 AUTO, ARRINGTON 426, P&P HEADS, 645 CAM, CUSTOM 12.5-1 MAHLE PISTONS, CUSTOM PUSHRODS, 90mm TB, P&P STAGE 1 MANIFOLD, BB CONVERTER, VALVE BODY & DRIVE SHAFT, 1400HP AXLES, HEADLIGHT CAI, 391 GETRAG, 90/10 SHOCKS & V6 SPRINGS, TUNED BY HEMITUNER AJ, CAR PB 11.01 @ 124.08, MY PB 11.310 @ 119.50 1.49 60ft
Wow Rich why dont you tell us how you really feel.LOL jk...obiviously I agree with Rich about the Sat. Light show.and what's the deal with your idea for the rims thing being up to 22's.then you should put me with the 24's and up class.I think the show end of the nationals will be hard to change, even if 200 more cars showed up because the judges have been watching the same cars grow right in front of them every year.I definatley think the bathrooms need a good freshing, write that down on the top of the list.I agree about the vendors missing, that kinda sucked.its like there was no eye candy.except for the cars.but there were cars that were in the show that were closed, windows up and no.sign of an owner and they were winning best of there class.my idea of a show is you get your car there get it cleaned, set up and ready to be judged, then I walk around to see who's got what new.and as far as the meet and greets in the evenings,a&w is cool but i think we need something bigger.and the QSL meet isn't really.its the second year in a row that I ate inside came out to the car and opened the lambo doors and sat there without another soul around.I even drove around the building this year with the doors up hoping it would light a fuse, but it was back to the hotel for engine talk.I think there just needs to be more options...and you thought rich vented LOL.and this isn't hating anth its just an opinion of someone who takes the whole LX Nationals to heart.I've been to all 4,and looking forward to 5.
PS ill pay cash for the guy who told me to turn down my stereo to stay home, because it was making his pacemaker skip a beat.I'm sorry but I'm in the middle of a field at a car show that has a class called sound presentation, and guess what,I'm presenting.I don't sit there and blair my radio at night at the hotel while everyone is sleeping out of respect, but give me a brake during the day.you got 900 HP cars with no exhaust driving right by you and nothing is getting said to them.pretty lame excuse.you got a whole year to come up with a better one.

One more thing I definatly think this is a must.cash pay outs for best sound presentation.put that at the top next to tge bathroom freshing.
well, i have to admit, it was bugging me too. especially during the awards. just being honest.
perhaps a better option would be not to park in the middle of the event, that way if people don't appreciate your work and sound system they don't have to walk past it all day.
much better option than telling people to tough it out or stay home.
Well for sure, bring back the Saturday and Sunday open bracket races. Also line up sponsors for those races ahead of time and make the awards even better. These races are important for the guys who are not really competitive in the shootout series.
Have an announcer for all races and kill the local radio station.
forget all my suggestions/comments.....its my idea, therefore im selected for the LX Extreme Makeover 2012!!
another idea is invite some SEMA LX/LC to the show.
Well, here's my 2 cents......
I say combine the audio/visual/sound into one group. Because I feel you have to have the entire package to truly win that award.
Also, I don't know if there's a cap for awards, but I feel there should be. (My goal next year is to win every award available to me in the car show)
I agree that there should be something determined on what vehicle is a weekend driver, daily driver or show car. (I know Jeff will have a smart @$$ remark for this one....) For instance I wouldn't consider my car a show car 100%. I do drive! Yes, Jeff even driving it up the trailer. That's technically driving it. I do drive it not daily but it does get driven.
I like the people choice award. I like the best wheels award as well.
I do like the whole road course and having the option to drive the new Dodges that come out and do the whole competition thing like they do out at Spring Fest.
I do feel we need more vendor support at this event. They have a booth and advertise there products. I feel that would generate a lot more interest.
We should also advertise besides word of mouth. Let's do it on the radio's as well. Let's try to make an incentive.
Cash prizes for the show cars would be great. We could do the prizes like they do at the Piston Power Show in Cleveland. Now if we do that then there's no cap on the awards...
I wouldn't mind helping sponsor the next LX & Beyond as well, especially if I can help make it the best one yet. I would be more than happy.
As far as racing, I think the old vs new would be nice. I think that would bring a lot of our heritage vehicles out as well.
I know people say the old cars break, well hell the new cars break too. But mixing the old with the new would be nice.
Maybe on Sundays we can do a challenge like Mopars vs Chevy one year and the next vs Ford. Just throwing it out there. That way we can get more of a crowd and let the competition begin.......................
Good ideas and feedback still coming... I'm writing these down.
For those of you that don't know me very well and may be watching the thread but not posted yet: When I say provide some feedback so we can make this better for everyone next year I mean it. There is always room for improvement. We may not be able to incorporate everything posted but at least it helps us understand what everybody is looking forward to and what makes it fun for YOU.
I wanted to get this out in the LX Community as early as possible so there is time for feedback and working out the logistics to some of these items. Keep it coming guys and girls!
