Cleveland (east side) - Scan tool???

Just wondering if anyone around has a scan tool I could borrow.

I want to do the MDS reset to make sure the damn thing is working because, quite frankly, 15.7mpg is less-than-impressive considering I'm babying the car on most driving. As I understand it, the procedure is:

    1. 1st gear WOT run to 4500 RPM
    2. Decel (no brake) to lower than 35mph.
    3. Park car.
    4. Ignition on, ignition off, ignition on.
    5. Scan tool to clear any codes and reset computer.

    Right?
I live in Painesville, would obviously drive a little bit if someone was able to help out with this.

I don't know anyone with a Star Scan except the dealer, would another kind of scan tool work.

I used to be able to hear the MDS come on when I had it

I'm not hearing the MDS, but I've done irreparable hearing damage due to playing in bands for the past 15 years of my life...

Adam, from what I have read, going through the steps will reset the MDS and restore fuel economy. The use of the Scan Tool/Starscan is just to clear codes. At some point, you will want a Predator for your car. The Predator can perform a multitude of tasks including clearing DTCs.

Autozone will check codes for free, I would imagine they can clear them while they're at it

Knowing them, they probably have a cheap-ass code reader that just prints out the DTCs and potential causes so they can sell you a bunch of parts you don't need. I would not be a bit surprised if they did not have the ability to clear them.

The cheapest OBD-II readier I've seen was about $120 and could clear them. I dunno, worth a shot if he can't find something else.

So the scan isn't actually necessary in doing the MDS reset procedure?

From what I have read on these boards, no.
Go ahead and run through the steps. Your last step will be to cycle the key.
FWIW, I don't have MDS, so I am relying on second hand info.

Adam, talk to Steve at RDP and have him do the predator and the tune it'll help out all the way around or you can get the predator and run a canned tune but it's great for setting your shift points ect

Might do that later this year when I get my bonus, but right now money's too tight to go modding this car.
