    R/T Big Brake Upgrade

2nd project after the electronic shift kit...woohoo...

This project is designed to bridge the gap between the many excellent brake upgrade kits that are offered by the aftermarket thru various vendors here...and the stock R/T components. Primary consideration is utilization of as many readliy available, low cost components as possible.

As of Feb. 2010, I have a working prototype on my 2006 Magnum R/T that uses the 360mm rotors from the SRT8 line in conjunction with the stock R/T calipers and pads. Even better is the fact that I was able to fit it all under the Factory 18" magnum rim...!!! In the next few days/weeks, I should have the same done for the rear but this time with the 350mm POLICE rotor.

Parts are being acquired now...and a pre-production setup for the front should be ready very, very soon for final fitment and adjustment. The rears to follow suit.

My projection is for the "kit" to include the necessary "modified" caliper brackets and pads as well as the new rotors and braided stainless steel lines for about $1000. I expect to offer several different pad and rotor options. I am thinking 3 levels of pads (street / Street-Track / Track only) based on friction coeffecients and will make changes as I go after some discussions with some folks that are accustomed to these types of setups. The rotors will be offered in cast iron and cast steel where available.

    ***PICS*** (finally)
    RT vs SRT rotor

    Diameter Difference

    SRT rotor with RT caliper

SRT rotor under stock 18" rim

    SRT on 20" rim

    Police Rotor on rear

Stock RT (left) vs Police rear bracket

    More later,

Fronts to be installed and road tested this week using stock pads.

2 sets of HP pads and braided stainless steel lines to be ordered this week as well as the rear conversion parts.

    Will post test results ASAP...

Any chance of you finding a way to make the Brembo SRT calipers fit on the R/T knuckles? I don't know the logistics of making something like this work but I imagine there'd be a demand.

    nah...

If you got the coin for the Brembos...you got the coin for the knuckles...

    This is all budget...

BTW... didn't get the brakes installed until tonight...weekend was wayyyy too busy.

Used the old stock pads I had with 1/4" pad left to make sure I had more than enuff clearance for the maiden voyage...

All I can say after about 25 stops that created some good smokey brakes is...GAWD...

They seem to really dig in and bite at a higher deceleration rate...even with stock pads.

I'm going to beat on them as much as you can on the street over the next few weeks to see how they stand up.

I can say this...the stock mount was nothing but 2 "ears" off of the caliper bracket...my modded version has an entire 2" x 6" long plate welded in with about 16" of weld total...I think it will take an act of God to get them to budge...

    More to come...

2+ weeks on the fronts...and it's brake heaven...even the wife has noticed...and now hates the fact that I don't have to stop until the last second...EVER.

Police rotors are here...and awaiting install...which may be this weekend.

I also got my 4 motor mounts to mod and get ready to sell...so I'll be continually busy, it seems.

Not necessarily the case, I've seen all four calipers on eBay for a few hundred bucks, that would be perfect or someone looking to piece something together.

    Thanks anyways!

Police rotors were temporarily mounted for mock up... brake drums are same size as R/T...so no parking brake issue...

Caliper mount will take minimal altering to work...

Checking on Police specific pads...they may be larger...the R/T pads don't cover the entire rotor face...

    More news ASAP...

R/T calipers...FREE (you already got em...)
SRT rotors...dirt cheap (you didn't mention those...)
    No Knuckles needed...
    New rotors included...
    New pads included...

Maybe you guys just don't get it...???

I'm talking about an entire brake upgrade on ALL 4 corners...for way less than a grand...that gets the car stopping better than an SRT...!!!

Maybe some eyes will open and some light bulbs go off when I get the final package and price worked out...
