Put in my getrag 226mm lsd today!

Myself and my Bud Mike(an actual 1st. class wrench) installed my posi unit and upgrade (I think) axle's and hubs today. Went very well, oddly enough the hardest part was getting the drive shaft back on! Lighting was not great and we had trouble lining up the spline, then getting the back flange on was hard. I should have put it up at the same time as the diff. as an assembly and to top it off I killed the toy battery again leaving the key on! You can't get the car out of park with a dead battery! So after a brief struggle we got it on and finished the whole job in a lesiurely 6hrs. including lunch and breaks. The unit comes charged with gear oil. So far it run's smooth and quiet, I will update soon on some good launches. I will be testing it out for real at the HHP modern mopar's at E-town next weekend!
I would like to thank Jeff@AllUSA for quick delivery and good service. Also InferAl and Rob,Tored1179 for there leading the way on these new swap's with great insight, and Eric,Hemi31 for the how-to install instruction's that I memorized before hand, And of coarse my buddy Mike for all his hard work today! Thank's guy's, I wouldn't have done this without ya's!

Bill I guess this post answers my PM questions. If the new differential comes pre-filled I would assume it has the friction modifier in it as well? Good luck!

fyi, you can unhook the shifter thingy on the tranny and click it into neutral from under the car.....

i didnt do anything but use a pry bar to get the male part of the diff out of the female side of the Dshaft..
then once it was all mounted we just used the pry to get it back on,
never dropped the Dshaft out of place at all, just let it rest on the Mufflers.
we only dropped the exhaust from the mufflers back.

Damn all the 226mm talk has the gears turning. It would be cost effective for me to dump the 3.06/DSS axle set up for a 226mm POSI unit/axle set up but the question is how long will these axles survive I wonder and are there any upgrades out for them yet?

Not unless the Quaife Fairy has come by and installed one while I was sleeping

Stock diff currently. I would imagine the 226mm diff is quite a bit stronger than the 215mm we have now as a larger ring gear size typically signifies more material/strength. Its the axles that I am worried about.

Although with Al knocking out 1.6X's all day long on it we are probably fine.

I take it you didn't have to go from a 4-bolt to a three bolt drive shaft rear section.

ahhh yes, guess i was lucky on that one

    --

    thats a tough call Chris,
i mean the price of the Quaife is about the same as axles/hubs/diff/bolts/nuts....
but youre also looking at the install cost/labor (if you cant do yourself) of the qauife.

you give up the ability to gear swap to a 3.55, and you give up dss axles

you gain a more preferable type (in my opinion) of LSD over gear type like the Q, you get a stouter unit with more splines, you will probably spend less doing this than the Q.\

another concern that you should consider is that with 3" aftermarket SRT exhaust.... youre going to have to check clearance on the pipes going right under the axle hub areas going into the diff.

with Mikespys Bassani exhaust it came extremely close.... clearance with a hammer lol.
    same with Al,

mine had tons of room in comparison.

i love to see AL giving these axles a beating... i know i dont have to, and never will have to worry, but i want to see them get proven by more.

thats a tough call, H~C~ considering you already have the gear... that was the kicker for me. 3.06 is money.
