Need some advice on a LSD differential and axles

Currently, my '06 SRT puts down 375rwhp. I was planning on adding a head/cam package to up that a bit, but only to 410-420 rwhp as that will be enough for me. I do not drag-race, but I do take it on a road-course occasionally. I want to add some sort of LSD. I was planning on the Quaife which runs about $1550. However, I see that there is also the stock setup from the 09 Chally SRT that sells for $1350 and includes 226mm axles and oem lsd. Since I don't like the way the car handles w/the open diff, I might decide to put in the lsd before doing the head/cam package.

My questions are, what does the oem lsd consist of compared to the Quaife? It's much cheaper than the Quaife, but is it worth it? Also, will my stock 215mm axles be able to handle 420rwhp, or will I have to upgrade to either the '09 226 or DSS axles? TYVM.

To use the 09 LSD you will need to use the 09 axles and change the hubs to 09 as well as the splines are different. The new axles are a lot beefier but I haven't heard any specific hp numbers for them yet... I know on the RT lsd for 09 it uses a 3 bolt rear half on the drive shaft just like the old open RT diff. I can't recall at the moment if the SRT uses the same 3 bolt setup or not but I am sure someone will chime in soon on that.
I am currently running an SRT diff in my 07 RT and was able to use the stock SRT axles with my stock hubs while a friend that upgraded to the same diff but used the 09 axles had to also put on the 09 hubs with his... Good luck.

If you're not planning on running a sticky tire or higher stall torque converter, you should be fine with your 06 axles.

The difference between the Quiafe and 09 Getrag LSD is that the Quaife is a geared and the Getrag is clutched. There different opinions on which is better, but clutched LSD are a lot cheaper to rebuild when/if the time comes.

For the Road Course I think the Quaife is hard to beat, for Drag racing no so much so and I would go the clutched LSD route.

Will you be running sticky road tires ? a Torque Converter ?

These will stress your stock axles to some extent and it would be IMHO a roll of the dice as to when an axle will give out.

Cost wise the 09 bits are hard to beat if you are on a tight budget. If you have a little more to spend then look into the Quaife setup.

I will be running street tires and I might eventually go to a Protorque 2800 stall tc. I doubt I'll ever drag race the car, it just doesn't appeal to me. I prefer road courses much better. Looks like I'll probably wind up going w/the Quaife. Thanks for the info.

Keep in mind that the $1350 price for the LSD is for all of those parts listed above - Differential, Axles, and hubs. If you don't need the hubs, your price will actually be less.....

I thought you need hubs with 226mm lsd but I see Tony reused his hubs on his swap, so question. The hubs on the 215mm 32 spline axles and the hubs on the 226mm axles are the same? (I guess if Tony reused them this is a self answering question )
