As part of my ongoing quest to help the Mopar scene, I have been in some deep discussions with 2 big names in the transmission business: Raybestos and Alto.
Specifically trying to get you folks what I consider to be the best clutches on the planet to go inside that marvelous, mysterious slushbox you so lovingly call the NAG1 transmission.
As such, I wanted to see what kind of immediate interest there is. Current expectation is to have prototypes ready in the next 2-8 weeks for beta-testing. I have testers already lined up...people you will all know and cars that will definitely torture-test these to their possible death (but hopefully not...!!!).
I will be working with any and all vendors that are open to using these hi-performance clutches on future builds and will actually have a personal stake (my neck and $$$ on the line...heh) in the business, if everything pans out as expected.
This may be new to some of you...and there may be some vendors that want to stick with what they already have...and that is fine. The only object here is to try and test all of the available options that can possibly give us some much needed improvement in the way of high horsepower applications.
For those that are asking "why"... the answer is:
We currently have only 1 or 2 options for clutches that will handle 800 Flywheel HP....let alone 800RWHP. Since it is becoming easier to reach this level with stroker motors and readily available blowers/turbos/nitrous...it is necessary to start looking at other materials that can EASILY handle the extra TQ that these motors are going to put out.
Alto and Raybestos both offer friction materials that can withsand this amount of TQ and have proven themselves time and time again over the years. When coupled with the extra clutches and higher pressures (and numerous other mods) that some of the builders offer, you CAN wind up with a transmission that can get every Lb/Ft of TQ to the ground instead of wasting it on slippage and heat.
These 1st tests will hopefully reveal a product that is FAR superior to the current offerings by Chrysler and Benz (and whoever else). (we're talking specifically CLUTCHES here...)
So chime in...if interested...it's going to get interesting...

PS- the clutches aren't the only thng in the works... ;-)
My company name will be posted as "Performance Electronics" when I get setup as a supporting vendor. More importantly, I am NOT trying to compete with the folks that are building transmissions (more like trying to work WITH them)...I'm just trying to give them another option than what they currently have. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY... I do NOT currently build these transmissions for resale and do NOT have plans to do so. My goal is simply to provide yet another quality set of parts (to you or your shop of choice) that can allow YOU to take your MOPAR to another level of performance...without breaking the bank.
