I had my converter changed from a 2800 to a 3600 stall today and Bob at SVS said my flex plate looked fine. He said he saw a cracked one on a stroker run 1.5x 60' times but that was it.

Add me to the list of broken flex plates. Mine did not actually break like some. When I pulled my motor for the current build it had some serious cracks. It was just a mater of time before it would have been broken through.
sorry to drag out an old thread just thought i'd post a pic to show what the damage looks like (this is not my car)
the car to which this happened has only boltons and is a 5.7
i was suprised to read that this appears to be a common issue! i posted a while ago that i get a strange noise at high rpms, although not a symptom of broken flex plate could it be a contributing factor?!
can you guys educate me on what would happen if this peice would break?

My goodness!! That's terrible for a close to stock 5.7. Makes me glad I've got a BB flexplate!!
Personal Best: coming soon!!
I'm a stock flexplate tester right now:-). Probably should have spent the extra $200 for peace of mind. With open headers I have no clue if it is broken or not.

I pretty much planned on getting a new flexplate with the TC but I didnt think it was this common to crack or break these stock ones.......definently getting one for piece of mind especially since I am going to be putting more stress on the drivetrain.

more like a howling noise, i made a video of the noise but till now i havent got a definative answer, not even from the dealer and as far as they are concerned i shouldnt be driving at high rpms lol!
heres the video for reference:
at 15 secs and 20 secs the noise is audible
Sounds like a washing machine on spin cycle!!
When I finally do my converter I think a BB flex plate is in order.

To My Beloved Father, Love You Dad
I put the BB flex plate in and all i can say is for $200 bucks it will save you thousands in damages if your @ 6k rpm and that thing flys off.
Don't screw around with safety for $200.
I have been through tranny related explosions (BJB Jeep + GM Tranny) pretty friggen scary.
More & more Chrysler dealers are buying these from me instead of the stock Chrysler flexplate when a guy comes in with a cracked one.
When your engine or tranny is out....replace the damn flexplate!
