Feeler::: Deep sump tranny pan for nag 1

Well with all the talk on how heat is really bad for our transmission,we 'BT'decided to
take a crack at designing one that is effective as well as affordable.I have all the parts
needed on the way to me as I type this.

What Im wondering is should we do both more capacity or maybe just add some cooling fins?My thinking is both.So as usual when Im brain storming on new products I like to
include the good people of LX Forums. So post up as Im always open to discussion. At this time I have no clue what the cost will be so please dont ask.I will update this thread within the next week or two with a approximate price.

    Thoughts? Ideas?

I like the idea. with a drain plug that isn't "straight down" too.

The trick will be figuring out the proper fill level with the extra fluid.

As it is there is a prescribed fill level for various temps... and that would change with a different volume of fluid in the system.......

thats the ONLY thing that I could see as a problem... but I'd be interested in seeing how it works out

I certainly think fins wouldn't hurt, but fins will inevitably jack the manufacturing cost way up... Do we know, what is the oil temp and whetted surface area inside the stock pan?

Kinda what I was wondering. Since most don't have a gauge.

Sounds like a cool product, I'd just be concerned about over-cooling. We counter that with engine oil with oil cooler thermostats (some systems).

As far as the oil level check, I'd think a car sitting in a shop, up to full temp, would give an accurate reading whether it's 20 gallons or stock. Still measures height and temp together.

No Trick,Got that figured out already.

I will also be adding a drain plug. And an extra bung for a Transmission temp guage.
I think putting a guage in the pan wouldnt be the most accurate but i think if the tran
was to over heat you would know it..

I'm interested Scott. I say increased volume and fins. Can't hurt right?

That's a keeper....more fluid and more cooling but I personally wouldn't go with fins. The route I would take would definately affect the production costs but it is what it is.

Maybe he's thinking of tubes going thru the pan (front to back). Fins would be great. Also remember to check clearance on lowered cars for a deeper sump if that is the route you guys are going. It is tight under there for us lowered guys.

My only comment, is I would want all the above, fins, 1-2 qaurt exstra, drain plug/tem,

I would not care if we got ride of the factory retaining bolt set up, but I love to the factory gasket.

Also FYI, Im not 100% sure about the filter set up, when I removed my VB the filter is lightly sitting in the VB, and looks like it "sits on the bottom of the pan" if the fluid starts sloshing around it could possably knock the filter out of the VB and the VB would not get any fluid,????????

    Just a possable heads up.

No worries Mike,We will be using the factory gasket. And the filter will have an extension to bring it lower in the pan..
