Converters - Let's educate the uneducated.

    from here:
    http://lxforums.com/board/showthread.php?p=2234742

We came to here... Talk about converters.

(I had a novel of a post, but LXF crapped-out again, and I'm not gonna type it all over... and I'd rather spend my time smashing my keyboard till all the letters scatter on my desk.)

compare to stock.... compare between current converter options.

Explain it to a 6 year old......

I will ask the first question...

How will installing a aftermarket converter affect my city driving if at all?

I've got a 3000 stall, and the street manors feel fairly normal to me..

I have the Mopar converter. I think it actually drives better than the stock unit. I have better throttle reponse. I can't really compare 60's times because I changed drag radials and axles when I changed the converter, but you definitely feel the difference launching.

I would like to hear feedback from other guys who have the higher stall and driveability. I believe even with a 3000 stall you'll still have good street manners.

I have a 2800 stall... installed it at the same time as ported intake, Fri Street Heads and a Paramount Valve Body. Normal driving it feels tighter than stock... get on it and all hell breaks loose

my PI converter feels the same way, i was pissed because i thought the stall speed wasnt right when i first drove it lol, i was trying to be easy on it to break it in. after that when i started gettin on it turns out stall is around 3200 but you would never know it wasnt stock without going WOT. i was really amazed at how stock it felt part throttle and being able to jump right up to 3200 anytime you pelase is nice also

It would be great information to know which brand people are happiest with.

Have a Precision 3500-ish stall in mine. Definitely can tell when backing up a hill.

Beyond that, the Adaptive TCMs that we have do a damn good job using the lockup clutch to keep daily driving very friendly... partial lockup almost immediately from a stop sign, and through all gears, at light loads.

Wow, did you impact the TCM Mike? The TCM doesn't do any modulation of the clutch until 3rd gear. (According to Chrysler service documentation on the NAG1)

I'm confused about the topic of this thread...Is it a torque converter tech thread? If so I have tons of stuff I can share from various sites and personal experience regarding stall, STR (Stall torque ratio) etc...

    Here comes a newb question,

Will an aftermarket torque converter make my call overall feel more "ballsier / peppier" for city driving? If so, whats the best stall tc to get for city / hwy use?
