60' times with various torque converters

I'm trying to figure out what brand and stall torque converter I want to replace mine with. My 60' times suck for my mods and I've almost ruled everything else out. If you bought one let me know the following:

    1) Brand of converter/stated stall
    2) Approximate HP/TQ of motor
    3) Rear end gear ratio
    4) Type of drag tires used
    5) Typical and best 60' times and whether you are getting traction
    6) Typical and best ET and MPH
    7) How streetable your converter is

    I'll start

    1. Protorque 2800
    2. 460/440
    3. 3.06
    4. 26x11.5X17 MT ET streets
    5. 1.80-1.86 (hooking well)
    6. 12.13-12.28 @ 114-117 MPH w/ new drag tire
    7. Don't even notice difference between stock

    Just a word of advice....

I've run Yank, TCI and Vig ranging in stall from 2800-4600. (In LS1 based cars)

I have had lockup clutch issues with them all even with tuning...The only converters I have heard consistently very good info on regarding lock up and reliability (besides $2000.00 plus custom two piece converters) is pro torque. I'd contact them about a restall.

    Cheers,
    Chris

I'm thinking about that as well. Thanks for the help. Problem is I'll be without a car until I ship, they restall, they ship, I install.

have you considered you cam as the culprit?
the 60' is about how much torque you can put down in that powerband.

if your running a mid to top end cam, you wont 60' for a ****, trust me, i know. and thats why im changing my cam.

I'd consider that except my buddy with same combo (exactly) gets 1.6x 60' times with less torque down low (according to the same dyno we went to). He runs a APS 2600 converter which he can stall at 3000 at the track.

What is your opinion of Edge Racing converters? After talking with PT and Edge I went with the Edge because I liked how Andre at Edge took special interest in my converter, we talked about how many clutch plates he was going to install, how he didn't machine the stater..... and he was less expensive without returning the core.

The one time to the track one time with the Edge converter made me a beliver. I'm still learning how to launch, not hold the RPM up and pull time! But my best 60' with a stock converter was 1.81. I'm curious if I can repeat a 1.65 60' again. lol

As a DD I like it better than the stock converter, slows down the throttle response. It does not jump to +- 2800 under normal driving.

Stu at Inertia was running a special price on these a month ago.

Nice 60' time. That is your best right? What is a typical 60' with this converter for you? What is the stated stall? What is your launch method?

    Thanks for your time.

I've got what everyone says is a pos converter, the Mopar Performance 2800. I haven't raced since the sidewinder cam, but with stock cam and stock gears and leaving at 2800 with MT drag radials I was getting 1.7 sec 60' times all day long and high 7's in the eighth mile. I spray at 3000 which is a fraction of a sec after leaving. I am removing the converter and going back to stock because I'm taking the car overseas and I need reliability and gas mileage , not 1.5 sec 60' times. I agree that the converter makes the throttle response a bit softer and easier to drive on the street, but if a stranger drives it, they tend to leave about 60' of rubber behind the first time.

Thanks! I'm tempted to try this one or use Cam's old APS converter (same type which DVSSRT8 has been having such success with). Lots of choices out there.

Yes, 1.65 is my best and the rest of the time pulling 1.7+ on the other 4 run that day.

Stall 2800 and Edge says they built it for my HP/Torque.....

Stall to about 1,000 to 1,100 and try to release the left foot before the right foot rolls into the throttle. It appears I held the RPM up to long and pulled time. Did I read that it is less than a second before it pulls time? I'm way over a second.

I'm still experimenting with how much air pressure and warming up the DR's. I plan on making notes on each run in the future and data log and look for trends.

BTW, did I miss if you have data logged your runs?

What is the forum's opinion of Edge stall? Not going to hurt my feeling, it's only a part.
