    Police Radio Code questions

Since I get tired of music, I have been listening to the Chicago Police Scanner thru Tune-in on my Iphone.

When they say come on the radio and say slow it down what does that mean?
Also when they take a personal, is that code for bathroom break?

I know it sounds stupid, but this is actually quite amuzing to listen too.

There are so many different ways of interpreting police radio chatter, it'd be impossible to "translate". What means one thing in Chicago, can have a completely different meaning in another area of the country.

Many of the terms you hear aren't "official" terms as in the "10 Codes", they're more a semi-official shorthand language. "Slow it down" for instance, I'd use that as a way to inform assisting units, the situation isn't exactly "Code 4", to keep comin' but, literally, slow down a bit.

"Takin' a personal" is probably what a "Station Stop" means to me... anything from hittin' the head to equipment repair to exchanging a dead radio battery. It's kind of a catch all way of puttin' yourself out of service for a short time.

For context, saying "...14, roll me a back, I gotta Adam Henry who's gone squirrely... gonna need an assist with a Rope-a-Dope..." is much quicker than saying, "2Boy14, dispatch another unit to my location in order to assist me, I've made contact with an uncooperative and potentially combative individual, which will probably require an extra set of hands to secure the suspect utilizing a Hobble Restraint System..."

I think thats true with a lot of jobs. I work in IT security and I have litteraly sat through meetings thats are hours long and maybe only said a handful of real words. However in my field I have to catch myself and explain what I mean to people because they don't understand what I'm talking about.
