    help with radios

I haven't started my research yet but we are looking to purchase new mobile radios that need to be dual band. VHF/800Mhz P25 compatible. I am looking for information on who makes this type of radio and also brands that have been good or bad for you.

We are currently using Motorola(800Mhz) and Kenwood(VHF). I prefer the Motorola over the Kenwood for functions. I believe that Motorola now has a radio that would meet our needs but I am looking for other options.

Wish I could offer you some help. But my departments radio equipment is 20 years old this year and my state is 20 billion in debt. Maybe we could work out a trade!! LOL
    Good luck, and be safe!!

I'm not sure if ours is dual band but we use Motorola Astro's for both in car and hand helds. I know we can pick up pretty much every channel in the greater Houston/Harris County area.

Our County is currently "upgrading" the entire radio system. We need to be P25 compliant. The reason for multi-band is some departments are VHF and some are 800Mhz. We are trying to get rid of one radio in the squad. We currenlty have two and it is a PIA.

It looks like EF Johnson and Motorola have a solution but I'm guessing they are going to be way out of our price range. The Motorola APX 7500 with the 09 control head is really cool though!
