Question Have some questions for guys in the Air Force?

So I hope you don't mind me posting here, but I'm really wanting to join the Air Force. I want to go into Security Forces because I really want to get into that area. Is anyone in that? If you could PM me I have some questions.

Joining the Armed Forces is a big step. You might want to look into each branch and see what they can offer you.

When the going gets tough and you look to the heavens for divine guidance, you'll have to look past that Air Force plane.

Of course, the Puddle Pirates stay close to shore while us Squids go handle the real work.

Universal advice..... Get any and all promises in writing. If you are offered a bonus, advanced rank, job, or school, it needs to be spelled out in writing on your contract. If there is any discrepancy it's void. If it was spoken but not written, it doesn't exist.

Start doing PT: running, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, etc.

I only have limited USAF knowledge but this general stuff is pretty much the same in each branch. Here's the USAF's web site, look around some: http://www.af.mil/

    Good luck!

Since you've already done your homework you know the benefits each branch has to offer. I would preface that comment with, pick a branch and a job that will have desirable work experience and attributes that the civilian sector would find desirable should you; retire, separate due to injury or it's just not for you.

I can tell you that at our current OPS tempo you 'will deploy' and probable allot. I believe the current dwell time is 1:1, meaning 12 months at your HOR and 12 months deployed.

Based on your question you may not have seen/read an outline of their job description so here it goes:

Based on my experience written isn't a guarantee either. Basically, if the regs don't allow it, written documentation from a recruiter isn't going to make magic happen. My suggestion is: once the recruiter answers all of your questions I'd find the nearest AF base and make an apt to meet someone from within the SFS. Preferable a few people who are at least an E6 and O2 or higher--folks with a few year under their belt so to speak. Ask for the orderly room and from there someone can direct you further--if the commander is willing to speak with you, meet with him too! I can tell you, at least within our unit, we do this all the time for the those who wish to join the service.

Start doing PT: running, sit-ups, push-ups, pull-ups, etc.
Big foot stomp here, be sure you're physically fit or they will hold you back in basic training if you don't meet regs: If you can't run a 6 or 7 minute mile you're in trouble already.
Lastly, the biggest lesson you need to learn is:
As long as you have the right mind set, what you put into your career is what you'll get back. Hard work, team work and a great attitude will get you far.

If you would like more info, PM me, and I'll send you my cell number. Good luck...

    Capt. L

Oh... almost forgot. Don't read to much into what the jokesters above have to say, they're kind'a like brothers you never wanted, but came with the second marriage.

But in the end, we're all 'one' family.

You'll have a great time in the Air Force. They want you to be a thinking man's service member and will actually teach you things that will help you in life.

Only those envious and jealous will rib you

Don't forget, you'll be spending your entire time training at Lackland AFB, just let me know if you're in Dorm 3702
