I read in hot rod this past week that turbonetics is working on a system similar to the one they offer for the Mustang. Single turbo ...

Nope the only vendor showing interest in 3.5 turbo's is CIS. He is currently working on the prototype. I haven't seen others hit this topic for us v6 guys yet other than Tim at CIS. So that will probably be the only option for a while. Will probably be the best one though.

I am working with Turbonetics a little actually. They are trying to find me the biggest turbo that will fit by the rear end BTW, they had no idea about our LX's so I dont think thats true...

CIS is the only route to go though. STS kit sounds like a joke and thats being totally honest. It just sounds like an exhaust whistle. Plus the CIS kit uses a complete exhaust kit rather than the STS kit that taps into the stock exhaust basically.

Whial you oppinion is good it could be a little biased. LOL. Also, I dont know if its just me, but when Im looking for the best forced incution setup for my car, sound is one of the last things Im worried about.

I dont know much about either kit for LXs but the STS put down really good numbers on GTOs.

    Where are you located?

I understand about the sound part, but I personally think it sounds like a clown whistle. Not to mention if you get rear ended, the STS kit is toast. The CIS kit is located near the rear axles, so it would take a HUGE hit to break the turbo/everything else.

Another thing, the CIS kit has many many more miles on it than the STS kits, so the CIS kit is proven time and time again. I believe Tim's 300C has like 30k miles on it, mine has near 3k very hard miles, and there are some others running around too.

That link didnt work for me?

Well see how the STS holds up with some miles...

The link takes some time to load on Quicktime. I would really recommend a single turbo setup rather than a twin turbo. If you ever went the stroker route and needed a turbo upgrade, its alot easier/less expensive to use one huge turbo than finding two that will work great together. Again, its all up to you and I wish you luck. Once you go turbo, youll never go back.

What are the options for the CIS kit when it comes to oiling the turbo? I think I saw where the STS runs an oil line back from the engine, what does the CIS kit do?

This may be another difference to the two kits and worth thinking about.

well the comment I read was specifically talking about all the hype of the new challenger coming out ... so maybe they're still in the process of opening their eyes to the possibilities of the LX platform ... since most of the R&D work they do for that car should cross-pollenate.

Unless using a very high end (read really expensive) turbo with sealed permanenetly lubricated bearings, all turbos are fed oil from the engine. The location of the turbo simply dictates the length of the line.

There are a lot of overall differences between the two.

I simply need a challenger on the lift to verify how much to shorten the mid pipe section, and if nothing else is different, that is all that would be needed to pop it on the challenger chassis.

We have a member here in DFW that is running a twin STS setup on his charger. He just signed up to dfwlx so as soon as I see it in person, I'll leave some feedback. I have seen pictures though and its real. He mentioned running 5psi until he gets the bottom end built up.
