Howdy folks,
Purchased a Thump RRR Racing belt tensioner to hopefully alleviate the belt shredding issues I have had last Fall just before I put my Magnum away for the Winter. I have had the Dayco unit (messed up the first one by melting the idler wheel) and am on my second one but it looks like it may be the culprit in shredding the belts on recoil after WOT and full boost (12 lbs on a Maggie). I am thinking the little black spring piece that is extending out of the case on the Dayco is cutting the belt on the recoil....and that the spring can't keep up.
Btw....I have done some alignment checking with my pulleys, etc using straight edges and a laser and all seem in-line, so I will try this stronger tensioner.
Anyone tried one of these btw? I was going to put the BWoody manual tensioner on but found this HD spring based one. They used to just make ones for Ford Mustangs using Whipples and Kenne Bell SCs, but now they make a Challenger Hemi model with a standard 70mm idler wheel as shown below.
Crazy price I know, but the BWoody was $350 and this one is MUCH beefier. Thump RRR Racing Billet Aluminum Pelt Tensioner, Chrysler Challenger, New Jersey, NJ
Here is a pic of the stock tensioner, beside the Dayco in the middle and the Thump RRR Racing billet model:
Install was fun today......the thing is so huge that I had to remove the fan assembleIt does fit but not a lot of room left around the body of the tensioner. I ran out of time to finish today but will give some feedback of this product shortly and some more install pics.

That thing is beastly! But with the price tag its not one I'm going to jump on. Hopefully the dayco holds up with the Vortech. Its nice to have options out there.

I have had good luck so far with the dayco on my procharger system with a 3.1 pulley running 11psi.. Different system of course to your maggie..
Damn eh 350$$$$
A few more shots and iPhone video:
Nice.. What kind of belt is that your running?
For that price that b!tch better have a lifetime warranty.
As per others, the Dayco works just fine on my KB.
Well, the Mayans and other Soothsayers were right, the end has begun.
Common sense is so rare it should be considered a superpower
just got mine today. Cant wait to get it installed. So tired of breaking belts and tensioners.

I usually shim the idlers so the belt rides the trailing side more than the leading. The belt will walk forward under load.
I discussed shimming the pulleys about an hour ago in the driveway.
Standard washers on the stud? 1/8"-1/4" out appropriate?
