    Supercharger install questions

I am considering putting a Vortech supercharger on my MSRT.
I have a shop locally that has installed them on other cars but never on an LX.
Should I be concerned or is it something that doesn't differ that much from car to car as far as install goes? They have done stuff for my car before, but nothing as complicated as a supercharger. They mainly work on Mustangs, Subarus, and Z's.
Also, what should I expect to pay for parts, install, and tune ... total package??
    Thanks for any input.
ps- I am in Southeastern NC but would be willing to drive a bit if anyone has a good deal on these.

Download the install manual from the Vortech site. You will be surprised at how easily this kit installs. Seriously, they include EVERYTHING you need in the kit. After reading the installation manual, you might decide to even tackle it yourself.

Not too difficult to install, but very involved to tune...

As long as the supercharger manufacturer is providing a safe, canned tune for a certain boost level with their kit, and all the required components, then any competent shop that you would normally trust with your car should be able to install it, and get it up and running properly.

Now, if it's any kind of a "tuner kit" where the fuel system and tune are not included, then you really want to have someone who has installed and more importantly, tuned that particular combination tackle the work.

In other words, if I have done something over and over again, I can send anybody a box of parts, and tell them exactly what to do in order to duplicate my results. If I haven't done it before, then the most I can do is send a box of parts that someone else recommends, and repeat any instructions that I have been told.

Hopefully this makes some sense, but if I can answer any specific questions, just let me know.

6 hours for a shop that has done a couple Vortch installs on these cars. At least 10 hours for a shop that is new to this kit. More without a lift doing it yourself. I did mine completely by myself in a Saturday and a Sunday, and I'm no expert mechanic by any means. I can tighten bolts, drill holes, and connect wires/hoses. That's about all that is required. It took me all of both days to install, but it would have gone much faster with any sort of help in a couple of places. I was also drinking steadily, and not in a hurry. So yeah, just a long series of simple steps.

Since the Vortech supercharger kits have only been out for several months, at one point we all were shops who had installed Vortech kits on other cars but not LXs, so I wouldn't rule them out if they have done good work on their other vehicles. The kit from Vortech is complete and very straight-forward to install. Their installation manual is quite detailed and if you are mechanically inclined at all, you could tackle this one. Basically, you need to remove the bumper, mount the water cooler, swap injectors, wire in the fuel voltage booster, drill/pin the crank, bolt on the supercharger and aftercooler, and flash the computer with the included Diablo Predator. That is certainly the compressed version and there's a bit more to it of course, but that is the gist.

I have installed Vortech superchargers on Mustangs and Chargers, and the process is very similar, and it was an easy transition to the LX installation.

You're welcome to bring your car down here for the installation. We are in South Florida, and are blessed with Diablo about 30 minutes from the shop so we could schedule a dyno and custom tune for you as well.

It should be an easy day job for a shop, and depending on how many people are working on it 6-10 hours. We charge $1000-1200 for an installation, and are a Top Tier Installer for Vortech. If you would like to talk about the options, I'd be glad to work out a package price for you to give you a break on the kit and installation.
