    Random Vortech/other mod questions

Ok folks I considered posting this in the newbie forum, but because it relates mostly to the Vortech I figured it should go here, lest it be moved anyway.

Have an '07 Charger SRT8. Bone stock as of right now. Before the end of the month I am going to be picking up a Vortech supercharger for it (hey, its $250 off) and then am doing a magnaflow catback, mid-pipes, a 180* thermostat, and am swapping out the tranny cooler with the B&M 14.4K BTU one and of course doing the Predator on it. Probably just run the canned tune. My question here is can I also add the SLP under-drive pulley with no issues?

This is my first real foray into really any engine modification at all so pardon the ignorance.

Yet another question is, obviously its safest to just run the stock 6.5 boost off the stock Vortech. Could I do the 30T pulley and that tune and still have it be considered a negligible risk? or should I not even bother and just run it at 6.5?

Oh also with the increased size of the B&m tranny cooler will I have any interferance issues with installing the intercooler for the Vortech? as far as space issues are concerned?

Again pardon the ignorance, and thanks for the replies. I have much to learn here, and this seems to be the best place to learn from those with far more knowledge about this stuff than me.

Well if you get the underdrive pulley, you will have to change the blower pulley to get the same net boost...

I would not recommend running the 30T pulley unless you are going to have the tune checked. I tried it and got significant detonation. Each situation is a little different and for all I know my car has some other issue that is causing the detonation, but it ran perfect with the stock pulley/tune and detonated with the 30T and new Vortech tune.

Doug- Did you ever get a chance to log that and try to track down the problem?

I think that you're having some other issues or some tune compatibility issues (cal id). There are several cars running the 30T pulley and Vortech canned tune without a problem.

To the OP, if you're concerned about risk stick with the 6.5 lb. kit. You should be able to mount the Vortech cooler above the hard bumper and tranny cooler below (or vice versa).

Ok so sounds like I'll give Vortech a call about the under-drive pulley and see what they say about the V3's pulley. Find out how it would affect the actual boost levels... might just ditch the under-drive pulley if it sounds like too much of a hassle.

Also while I have them on the line I'm sure they might have some insight as to how many people have reported issues with stock engines running the 30t pulley. I'll probably end up putting the 30t on and seeing how it goes. If I monitor it all and it seems like its having any problem I'll swap it back out and just run it stock. Though I'd love to have that extra 1.5 boot on there...

thanks for the input on the tranny cooler fitment, kind of an odd question in retrospect seeing as how I'd just have to find a way to make it work when I get it all torn apart.

Thanks for the input all around fella's.

i would not recommend that under drive pulley, because you will be losing boost... on the other hand get an a/f gauge and a boost gauge

you know that predator and 180 t-stat comes in the vortech kit!?

stick with the same pulley for now unless you go forged bottom end

tranny cooler could go under the heat exchanger so that should not be a problem

finally, believe me you will be happy with the power you get from vortech's basic kit, i got it and my car puts a smile on my face every time i drive it lol

well right on, saved like $30 right there...

Ok so now sounds like I'll just do the stock 6.5 psi, don't need to buy the t-stat, and no U-D pulley.

Yes, the A/F Gauge, and Boost gauge will be installed in the pillar pod. Yay more engine data for me in my car!

I have done a good deal of logging, but haven't figured it out yet. I contacted Johan last week, but probably won't hear back until after the holidays.

It also comes with the Diablo Predator too. So that's some more money saved. You can put that towards some Magflow Hi-Flo Cats!
