Procharger or Vortech for the 6.1?

I wanted to post this up for anyone that has successfully installed either on their SRT8, to give us a report on the process, tuning, results, issues, challenges... good bad & indifferent. Now that both vendors are selling them, there are many of us that are considering...

A guy here in San Diego was a tuning R&D car for Vortech. He got his car back a little over week ago and it is CRAZY strong. He broke loose with full ESP on just goosing it around a corner in his neighborhood. He said he break the tires loose in any gear with a quick stab of the gas. Sounds like a strong kit.

So can I, but this guy has had a stock SRT drivetrain for 2 years. He was excited to say the least.

Well, the numbers aren't that great because it's being tuned on a mustang dyno. Stock SRT8 300C with CAI and cat-back only, he put down 318 RWHP and with the Vortech kit at 5 lbs. (and a WAY fat tune) it put down 400 RWHP. So he's in the ballpark of a 30% increase in RWHP with the Vortech kit.

I am biased as my car is currently getting a vortech kit. I have not driven it yet but the fact that the vortech kit is complete was a big factor for me. You buy the kit and nothing else...the procharger kit you have to buy injectors, fuel system upgrades, and something else im forgetting...i think its a ATI not sure...

You can buy a complete kit from procharger just like you can just buy a tuner kit from vortech.

I'm scared to even ask how much you paid for the HHP parts compared to Ryan's Vortech....

You throw on that Vortech and that'll be crazy

    Smile #'s

Dyno's do vary somewhat. Track #'s tell the story. Hopefully he'll put down some strong #'s at the track with his newly supercharged cars.

There are several supercharger kits available now for the LX's. I'm just a tad partial (okay a lot partial) to the twin screw blower myself. My car runs STRONG with just bolt ons 413/427 at the wheels with stock block/heads/cam & drivetrain. With the twin screw it was crazy fast. The only question I had after my first drive was "Does this thing come with a tire sponsor?"

Right now my car is NA again, but still pretty fast. Irwindale runs every Thursday night 4pm to 10pm...... Anyone wanna go???

Not for a 6.1 you can't. I tried 2 weeks ago. Procharger only has the tuner kit (right now) for the 6.1. You need to add your own injectors, boost-a-pump, dampner, and tuning.

Huh,,,,,, sounds like a guy I might know. I'll have to give him a call.

However, there is a youtube video of the Speedfactory Vortech supercharged Challenger getting smoked by the HHP Challenger which was all stock except for a RDP tune. This was at the LX Nats this weekend. I will try to find the link.
