    MAP Sensor?

So was wondering when we supercharge or turbocharge our cars do we have to replace the MAP or modify the MAP signal? I see that the kits are coming with the predator to tune, but how do we get the MAP to work?

All the diablo tunes I am aware of right now are using a 2 bar map sensor in place of the factory 1 bar sensor. If you are going to run more than about about 15 psi max, then you will need a 2.5 or 3 bar sensor but the tune will have to be scaled for it.

Nearly everyone is using the GM map sensors, they are linear in output and readily available. There are no direct replacements, you leave the factory sensor in place, disconnect the plug from it, and then wire the new one to the harness by either a T splice, or just cut the factory plug off.

Actually nearly everyone is using the SRT4 2 bar map.And it is a direct replacement and the factory plug works with it.

    X2...

Tim, why on earth would you tell someone to "Cut" their factory wiring harness and rewire? Ouch.

Most S/C guys are running the SRT4 MAP as was noted. If you go with the Vortech System it will come with the MAP, Diablo Tune, and upgraded injectors as part of the kit.

Piece of cake using the GM 2 bar MAP sensor and a hell of a lot cheaper too I believe.

I have owned SRT-4"s, and I am very familiar with that map sensor. When I say a direct replacement, I mean you can remove the factory sensor out of the manifold and replace it with the new one. There is no way the SRT-4 sensor will work on a stock 5.7 intake as that sensor is a twist in with no provisions for the two screws required to hold the SRT-4 sensor in.

Maybe it will fit into the manifold on the 6.1 as it is held down with screws, but I have not seen that fitment.

The plug might work, if so, then you would only have to slip the vacuum line over the O ringed nose of the sensor and clamp it on. I guess some have gotten it to work.

I am not advocating someone hack off the map sensor plug, although we have had some customers do that. The way I do it, is to back up from the plug a few inches and skin back a bit of insulation and then solder the GM plug wires onto the factory wires. Then you have both plugs available.

The GM 2 bars are readily available and a bit cheaper. They are carried by numerous manufacturers as the universal map sensor, and all the tuners I have dealt with are quite familiar with the voltage scale on them.

It's just the one we chose to go with for those reasons.

Tim the SRT4 is a direct bolt on for the 6.1.The plug will fit as well(just need to shave down a tab).I am running this with no issues. For the 5.7 it will need to be adapted but it will work as well.

yeah after asking the questiong about which sensor it was, it occured to me that it is the stock one. Does anybody know if a stage 3 sensor would work? I wouldn't be boosting enough to really need it, but my bro has one that he's not using. And also, you could pick up a stage 3 sensor for cheaper than the stock one.

the stock sensor is $17....not gonna get much cheaper than that. And you can get the stage 3 but it will be much more difficult to scale.

Good information to know, I will check into it myself. Hemi31, do you know if the SRT4 voltage is linear as the GM sensor is?

    For those wanting to know,

Stock SRT4 = 2 bar about 15 psi boost max
    Stage 2 and Stage 3 SRT4 = 3 bar about 29 psi boost max

If using the 3 bar, the tune would need the map sensor voltage adjusted.

    Again thanks for the info.

I have an adapter for the SRT-4 Maps in a 5.7 it's from Vortech and it works great.
