I installed NGK 2314 plugs in preparation for my Vortech and gapped them at .035. The car runs much smoother, even though I only had 12,000 miles on my stock plugs.

Did RDP tell you why to leave them at 050? The reason you gap your plugs down for nitrous is to prevent blow by. Maybe he doesnt think its an issue with your car or he has it tuned that way. Id ask him to clarify why so you have more to go on.

I was under the impression .035 is the norm for N20 and/or FI... The suggestion for .050 confuses me..

My NGKs are gapped at .035 and I've run a couple of bottle through it at 75-100 shot in the Phoenix summer heat without issues so far...

ngk directly. I sell them and deal with them almost on a daily basis. The extremely small electrode tip will break very easily

So, is the concern is that you'll contact the tip and break it while setting the gap? If that's the case, as long as you are careful when gapping, there should be no concern - right?
