    Question about pulling timing

    Hello all,
I have a zex 125 shot kit and was wondering if anyone knew what rpm range to pull timing and how much... i read some people are pulling from 2 - 4 degress. any help is appreciated.

You dont need to pull any timing from my experience with the kit. Well unless you have your knock sensors turned off.

Glad to see you back on the boards, you gonna be read for Etown

I pulled 4 degrees in all rpm ranges. I've tried pulling anywhere from 2 to 4 degrees and didn't notice any difference in ET so I decided to stay on the conservative side.

No doubt its safer to pull the timing, just saying from what Ive seen and done, its not needed on our cars with the ZEX kit.

dan are you saying not to worry bout the timing mainly because the kr will retard timing on its own if needed?

I was planning on just running a 75 shot next year cause i didnt want the loss of hp 24/7 that i would have from pulling the timing.

Yup, thats basically what we are seeing. Retarding the timing is text book but from what we've seen, you net the same result as long as your knock sensors are not disabled.

Soo how much timeing would you pull if you were going to run 250 shot? Im going with the stand a lone fuel cell so I can run the nitrous with 112 race gas.

How much timeing can the nk retarts pull?

it can pull 30 plus degrees if it wanted too . my issue in your case would be this. The knock sensor has to see the knock a couple times then slowly adapt fuel and timing to cover the issue. With you slamming a 250 (unless its progressive) you may do damage quicker than timing is pulled if slamming a 250 at once. May i said, not for sure. I would be a little leary in your situation. My experience is from advanced driveability (aka check engine lights) and nitrous on sport compacts though. dan is the man to double check with on this car though

I cannot speak for a shot that big. You should get a tune specific to a shot that big no doubt.

i wonder what they are doing for the nitrous tunes. The only real adjustability would be ignition timing and since there is no stock sensor that will know when nitrous is used they must be pulling timing all the time, at least i cant think of anytime they could pull timing just on nitrous hits as the stock emmisions sensors dont have anyway to really monitor that.

For a 250 shot your going to want to pull at least 8*......and there is a limit to how much timing the knock sensors will pull.......if you go past that......BOOM!

IT all depends on the shot and the car. Zex calculator runs big so that 125 shot is really like a 100 by normal nitrous standards. Really all comes down to setup, compression, fuel type, etc, but general redneck rule of thumb is 2* for every 50 as a starting point. I say better safe than sorry, I hardly ever see a nitrous car lose any real power from being overly agressive on the timing pull so you might as well be safe. It's much better to pull it yourself than to let the knock sensors do it for you.
