Nitrous Blow Back on a 5.7

I seem to have found out what happens to a 5.7 intake when the motor is fired up with a manifold full of NITROUS !!!!

I pulled the intake off tonight !!!!!... I'll get further in it tomorrow night

The manifold blows out at the seams
not to mention blowing the gasket out between the EGR tube and the valve, 3 intake runner seals are blown and the Throtle Body seal to the manifold is blown out.

I hope the motor is not hurt. Its building enough crank case presure that it blows the dipstick out of the tube

I don't know who to blame

I went on a cruise last week..... When I got home my car ran like ....???!!
It had a random misfire code, plus 5 others. The A/F went off the scale lean when I would take my foot off the gas when coasting. At idle
the A/F would swing from about 12.5 to 15. Cruising the A/F ran in the low 14's
I left my keys with my 20 year old son
... and told my Daughter's 19 year old boyfriend he could drive it 1 day to the shop where he works...

STUPID ME !!!!

So at minimum I need an Intake Manifold... Please reply in the WTB Forum

I got some pics of the Manifold. I might be able to get them posted tomorrow. Hopefully I'll be able to pull the rockers and do a Cyl leakage test when I get home from work. What concerns me is the intake is full of oil and the crank case pressure blows out the dip stick.

yep. i had a sneeze like this too. blew the bottom off the mani and squashed cai. aslo bent a couple of push rods (later one of them went from bent to broken). good luck.

What system are you using? Hope you dont have any major damage.

The system that caused the problem is a NOS Sniper. It had a leaking nitrous valve. I found the problem when I tested the system before I ran at the 1320x event. I had a new valve temporary plumbed in for the event but I reconnected the system to the bad valve for a show the Saturday before I left Sunday. I never expected that my son or my daughters boyfriend would open up the bottle.

At least the leak was on the first stage with a .040 jet, not the 062 I have in the 2nd stage

I kind a believe my son when he says he did'nt do it. I don't know about my daughters boyfriend. He hasn't spoken to me since I got upset about the car having been 900 miles on the trip meter and the tires set at 32" not 28.5". Also the car was dirty, the front wheels were gray from brake dust and rubber was slung up in the rear wheel wells. To make maters even more evedent my drag tires were super clean and the rear lugs were so tight I had to use a cheater bar to get them off

Don if your building pressure in the crankcase a compression check would probably tell you what you need to know at this point........I would pull the PCV valve first though........the sneeze probaly locked it closed and thats why your getting all the crankcase pressure.

Damn, not sure what is worse, the mechanical breakage or the trust issues with your daughter and her boyfriend...crap. Sorry Don - hopefully this ends up being an easier fix than expected.

If you want a 6.1 Intake Manifold - FlyByU is selling one. PM dan and see if this is an option still.

Yeah, i heard that a FRI car with a sidewinder and 6.1 intake with stock heads did pretty well on the dyno. If it's the same dyno i dyno'd before in Houston, the numbers are realisticly comparable, since my numbers there were close to the same numbers here in my hometown. Of course there is a bunch of cold weather going around so...

either way i hope you can find the fix and hopefully its something simple.. like erik said check the pcv it could be a easy fix...

Ugh sorry to hear about it Don. Sounds like you've figured out who's to blame... it's amazing what little respect some people have for things that don't belong to them. I'd sit down and have a little talk with him.

Let us know what you find out about the motor... I hope Erik's right and it's just a stuck PCV.

Don. Damn this stinks. That boyfriend has some pair. At that age I would have been really happy just getting to drive your ride let alone abuse it like that.
