Do you turn you Nitrous off between shifts

Im a little confused here. Im tryn to get all my parts togeter for my Nitrous set up. My boy dose not want me to run a rpm TPS control but just a miro swich under the gas petal and a montary button in my hand.

He told me I would have to let go of the button durning shifting as are charger take to long to shift.

Im working on a 200 shot / plate set up.

    Thanks mike

a 200 shot might be a lot for your first set up. Start out with a 100 and work your way up from there, learning how to control the car, that type stuff. Some people say that you should not spray inbetween shifts, but I dont see it as a problem since our cars are automatic, so I dont htink a window switch is necessary. Many people have been spraying through shifts for a long time with no probs.

I asked that same question before I had my nitrous installed and I was told that you do not let off of the nitrous during shifting. You set it to trigger in conjuntion with the TPS at a certain RPM's. I have ran it about 5 times with no problems during shifting. BUT...................200 shot?? Thats a question for the big dawgs I think. I'm runing 100 shot with the TPS. I think that the TPS way is the best way, however I am just an ametuer chiming in. Good luck on that set up. I bet that is going to be really sweet...

200 seems a little big for the 5.7 IMO.. As for shifting between shifts I would not worry about that.I have never seen or heard of an issue...Good luck on that big shot..

yes 200 is alot for my first run, but Im haveing my 392 dyno tuned for a picticlar shot size so I have decide if I want the car tuned for 200 or 250 so my tune will be safe. Also I was told you cant run smaller than 150 shot throw a plate set up. Mike

The proper way is to use a window switch. It turns the nitrous on at a programable rpm and off at a programable rpm as well. This keeps the nitrous from spraying through your shifts which is to prevent your nitrous from being engaged if you hit the rev limiter. If you have your rev limiter raised, as Scott said, our cars seem to perform just fine spraying through the gears. 200 shot might be different though, your car might not shift as smooth getting hammered by that much HP.

I figured it would come with the zex kit if you absolutely had to have one. A 200 shot might be ok on a forged bottom end, I think you will need some half shafts though. And you can run whatever size shot you want through the plate, I am running 100 shot. You use the zex jets.

I spray through my shifts but I am only running 100 shot. I have my window switch to deactivate at around 6300 rpm with raised shift points at 6000 rpm through the predator.

I spray thru the shifts. My suggestion, stick with a 100 shot. If you go to forged pistons, rods, and crank then a 150 is safe, but if you go more you will need more fuel. You will need drag radials or you will spin for about 1320 feet. If you want to go faster than a 100 shot, you should think about getting a stroker, ported heads, a hot cam and then build a staged nitrous set-up. Hell, I'm having issues hooking up with just a 100 shot. A200 shot on a stock bottom end= putting a stick of dynamite under your butt and lighting it. Very exciting for a split second!

Nothing wrong with a button in your hand.... connected in series to a TPS controller. Connect the TPS controller to the gas pedal. With today's electronics, anyone that wants to use a micro switch is either cheap, or has no concept of what a TPS controller does. A VCR will play your movie, but it looks much better when using a DVD player.

As for spraying through the shifts..... If you do it right, don't spray through the shift. A window switch is the right way to do it. However, it will help spare the tranny at a cost of a tenth or two. I always sprayed through the shifts.... but I was only playing with a 100 shot. One of those do as I say but not as I do things, I suppose!

Others have said it already.... if this is your first party with nitrous, start off with no more than a 100 shot..... and play it safe out of the box.

I'm not a N2O vet but I've heard a lot of arguments about this. When I do mine ill have the N2O cut off at 5800 if I'm shifting at 6000 just to have less stress on the tranny.

Thanks Guys With my New Bad Ass FRI 392 stroker I guess your right, Im probley already pushing my luck with the stroker, and with more HP from the Nitrouse, I don't feel like buying a new trans.

I will get the controler and still use the botton, that way I can turn it off if I lose traction.

Any one with a controler notice the controler turning of the nitrous if you hit limp mode???

Unless your going to run a huge shot of N20 there is no reason to shut it off during shifts. I have 100s of runs using 100-125 shot without any issues. And a handful of 150-175 shot runs without issues. Now we all know that when we get to a certain point
limp mode comes into play, and anything over 600hp we start to see tranny issues. So
why worrie about it with the little shots we are running now.Even Lou1355 is spraying
at least a 250 shot and is not having any issues
