Throttle plate mod
I just recently cleaned my throttle body and wiped out my intake as much as is possible without removing it. I was looking at the port of the throttle body and got to wondering about making it larger. I have seen them for sale being honed out completely and also being honed out and still having a lip at the plate, Its been my experience that going through any opening the smallest orifice is the size so the ones that are not honed completely are not really larger mm. It also brought up the thought that why wouldn't say 5 to 10 grooves in the throttle plate on opposite sides not all the way through but say half through so that at closed position you are feeding the standard mm size orifice, but as you start to open you increase the air travel as it finds more opening due to the extra opening found by the air space going through the grooves. I know at full throttle you might not get extra space unless you also grind down the plate rod on each side also, but it seems to be possible also... Surely this would increase mm size also, or am I wrong???

when I port out stock tbs I gradually open it from 85mm to 84 down to 80 at the blade then remove the front half of the shaft...removing the front part of the shaft itself allows air that was once displaced be the front half of the shaft to flow, not much but alittle more...I understand where the grooves may work but getting the part throttle and idle to not be affected may be an issue...

So in essence, you are getting the same results. At Idle your opening is still stock, and as it opens it gets more space, but your still going through the same 80mm except what you gain from the throttle plate missing the front half of the shaft. that in itself would probably give you some increase in port size by less restriction. When changing port size is there any changes needed to programming, or do you just pull the battery cables and let it relearn your driving pattern??
