No specific knowledge or experience here but that is certainly a strange one Lou. Only a couple ways for smoke to escape....out past the impeller housing seal (mine has a small rubber oring seal) or in through the bear seal and out the casing somehow. If the later was the case then I would expect oil leakage as well given the internal lubrication system.

Just a thought, but have you guys just tried unbolting the head unit and blowing smoke into it by itself so you can evaluate while its in your hands/on a bench instead on strapped in hard to see brackets?

Thanks for taking the test, Chris...

I'm going to hold the official ProCharger Tech answer until a few other guys have a chance to chime in.

I will tell you that Lopez and I both thought we found out why we were only making 13.3 PSI on the dyno last week.

DId the housing hit the bracktery due to bracketry flex under load? maybe put a gap in the housing seals?

My money is on impeller housing seal too. I can't wait to hear what they said though...

    I got your flex...

    Logical observation

Here is some more data for your analysis...watch for the flex:

I say you put the darn thing on backwards and you were actually vacuum cleaning out your motor

Yep...and it still made 832 RWHP!

    Well, actually, nope....

Another angle for the "flex" observation...

Here's another shot at analyzing the "flex."

Please disregard the smoke--it was coming from oil spray on the headers from my super-duper catch can that was overloaded due to an "inappropriate" plumbing of the by-pass oil filter return line.

I don't know if my flexometer is calibrated correctly, but I detected zero, none, nada, which I find remarkable.

having no aftermarket supercharger experience, i'll just have to guess.
i would doubt that the gearbox would be pressurized. so no need to seal between the 2 housings.
my guess would be a leaky bearing seal or between bearing and housing.
assuming the oil heated to create the smoke contains a leak detection dye, you should be able to pinpoint the leak source after careful disassembly.
Izzy pics money talks. unfortunately, mine usually says... "good bye!"

Some kind of one way seal? You were blowing the smoke in the wrong direction correct?

Funk...your superior intellect and vast personal experience wins the day.

The junction between the compressor housing and gearbox is not meant to be hermetically sealed. It is a low pressure area and the smoke escaping was what one would expect with the compressor making no boost and pressurized air being introduced backwards through the intercooler.

    Situation normal.

The low boost number on the dyno can only logically be explained by a large displacement, good-breathing, race motor with a monster cam.

We've put a larger crank pulley on to get some more spin and CFM out of the F1R.

We're hoping for 16-18 psi and another 100 RWHP or so.

    We'll know by Friday afternoon.

As a side note, the dyno sheet indicated no belt slippage and the cog belt is holding up to the abuse.

    Thanks for the fun, fellas.

I wasn't going to post preliminary stuff on this build, but it's been so dang long I've been bored outta my gourd. I gotta **** chat about something, I guess.

    Thanks for indulging me.

cool, well I guess I'm glad that your problem is a systematic one, not a failure of a part!
