    Preferred method of water/meth nozzles?

OK What is the safer and most usable method of mounting the water/meth nozzels? I was talking to Tim @ CIS and he mentioned the way he does it: He mounts the nozzles after the IAT sensor where the water meth doesn't come in contact with it and adjust the PCM... He said he just mounted his after and tuned it with it spraying at what ever RPMS he wanted it to come on. this method is not bad but I'm not sure ur getting the bene's of having this kit b/c yes it would cool the intake and cool the combustion chamber but would the PCM still pull timing since it still reads the outside air at the IAT? He drove it around like that (everyday driver) He liked it b/c if he ran outta the w/m his car wouldn't be dependent on it and screw something up... ie: If u have a tune that had the nozzles B4 the IAt sensor (with it coming in contact) and had a tune and ran out of the w/m then ur car would want to rely on the w/m and u'd have all this timing w/out knock and no water/meth which is bad....

or you could do it where u have a regular tune then a race tune... w/the regular tune you would have a on/off switch and just tune it off where the w/m doesnt spray.... then on race day u put the other tune on it (like stated above more timing w/no knock) and tune the switch on. This would make the PCM think it's cooler outside and get the bene's fromthe oct boost.

I run mine after the IAT for the exact same reasons Tim did.

thx eric, did you do your tune w/ the water meth kit installed so you can take advantage of it...oh, I forgot you're boosted. If I was to go this route should I install the kit and have it sprained while being tuned?

You could do a Daily driver tune and a track tune with bumped timing to really take advantage of the meth.

what would be the difference if my nozzles were places b4 (not sprying across) the IAT? I figued that if I had the car tuned w/it sprying b4 the iat then there really wouldnt be a difference in a race tune would there?

you'd be good to go unless your meth ran out, then your IAT temp would rise.

Thats if I out it after the IAT sensor (with it spraying on the IAT) but if place the nozzles B4 the IAT then there should be no chance of me screwing up my engine b/c my PCM wouldn't be depending on the w/m... correct

If you are not.....responsible enough to not run out of 1 GALLON of water/methanol (and not keep a windshield wiper bottle of another gallon in the back of the car if you are that worried) then you might not want to install this kit.

I don't mean to sound like more of an A$$ than I am but if you run out on our cars with a gallon reservoir and a OEM low level warning light installed by the factory then maybe W/M is just not for you.

I have mine "untuned" for daily driving and once I get a chance to get some dyno time I will have a race tune for:

    1. W/M injection pre-IAT where I have it mounted
    2. Knock sensors turned WAY down or off
    3. More timing advance

    My mounting place:

    Underside of my CAI elbow

This is directly from Dan @ Labonte re: Water Meth on Speed Density/IAT setups.
"You want to place the W/M nozzle after the IAT so that the IAT does not get misted on. Reason being that colder air measure by the ECU will increase the fuel injector duty cycle, there by richening up the fuel mixture. This can lead to combustion quench from to much fluid that the spark can't ignite properly."

The only negative to tuning for the Meth is the issue if you run out! If you don't specifially tune for it than if you run out there is no issue. For daily driving there is no need to tune for it. If you do tune for it I would suggest getting a Water/Meth Level Gauge if you don't already have one so you can see when you are running low, and also the fail safe controller and gauge to monitor the flow. This displays in ML in real time.

The top sensor on the wiper bottle is the low level sensor installed by the factory, the bottom is the pump for the windshield wiper fluid...the black bottle in the background is the Labonte 150 PSI pump.

So w/out tuning for this kit u really cant take advantage of it though other than running cooler temps... but which inur case ur IAT would not be sprayed so there really is no advantage unless u tune for it correct?
