Having trouble at the track losing traction with nitrous.

Went to the local eighth mile track today and had a very frustrating thing happen for the first time. First run, I loaded up the tq converter a bit and launched hard at the last yellow, as soon as I hit 3000 rpms I hit the nitrous button(100 shot)Bang, car goes into limp mode and I coasted across the line still beating the other guy in a Olds 442, he red lighted! My car was coasting in neutral so I stopped, shut her off, fired her back up, she's fine. Next run, I launched softly from idle and hit the juice at 3500 and trounced a local favorite Mustang GT. 8.3/85.55 to the Mustangs 8.9/79mph. Last run Idid the soft launch then hit the juice at 3000rpm, boom again. Very frustrating! I know it's gotta be my tires General 255/55/18's aren't up to the cooler air and better DA's . Today was a nice cool 72 degrees , I know the solution is probably drag radials, but any other ideas? I know my car has 7 seconds in her ,it's just me.

Drag Radials are your very best friend - at least until you drop an axle!

Before the Sidewinder with the DR's (M&H Racemasters) I couldn't spin them unless they were wet. With the cam I can light 'em up if I work at it - dry.

But at the track, wet 'em, heat 'em up nice and no more traction issues. It's a way cool feeling to know that when you launch it, it's going to launch, not go up in smoke.

Do you use a window switch? I wouldn't spray it till you hit 2nd, and not through the shifts......

No window switch, I never had any trouble before today with my Magnum, and have run lots of 100 shots thru my Hemi Ram just hitting the button at 3,000. I think That I'll probably invest in some DR's and perhaps a window switch. Scared the crap outta me when it went bang both times and I let off the button quickern I would have dropped a Black Widow spider.

Get the D/Rs first.Sounds like traction issues to me.With D/Rs and a well prep
track you should have no issues. When that car hooks right out of the hole Woohoo
hang on Then try the rpm switch if you need it.FYI I spray through the shifts with
out any issues.Quite a few of us here do..Good luck..

wonder why you went into limp mode though, never heard of that just from the spray, I have only gone into limp mode once and that was trying to do a burn out going around a turn. Was your traction control on?

Traction control off as much as you can turn it off in a 05 RT. My buddy Tim at TDP who tuned my car has had 2 LX's do it, srt-hardware and rich-miller's hot 392 running a 150 shot. Not expecting a nearly stock RT Magnum to do it. If it happens to anyone, don't freak out, just stop, shut her down wait a second, and start her back up. Good to go. Your shorts may or may not need changing!

I've had that same issue several times. Either on the 1-2 shift or the 2-3 shift. I've even had it happen off the spray. It used to happen at least one time on each track night. Since I've updated to the newer versions of the Diablo, I haven't had any issues. I'm not sure if that was the solution or if it's just coincidence.

BTW, I had to change my shorts the first time it happened. I keep a spare pair now just in case.

thats pretty wierd. so it happens at WOT only at the track but not on the street? I wonder what people are doing differently at the track to make limp mode happen. I always thought I went into limp mode around the corner doing my peel out is because I left esp on and the tires were trying to catch over and over basically messing up the computer. Has no one found out why our cars go into limp mode yet?

Because they are programmed to do that when certain situations occur. You may have noticed that limp mode only occurs at high rpm's?

Exactly I should have stated that earlier in the topic. It usually happens
when someone bounces off the rev limiter
