    Porter-Cable 7424

I destroyed my third "Cheap" Buffer this weekend and have recently noticed the Porte-Cable 7424. Having searched these forums I noticed that at least one of our own uses (or at least has used) that model Buffer - MoonStreaker. It's more than I have spent on my others (but they didn't last very long either) but also not beyond reason. Any views on this Buffer or any others in the group. I figure with as many Black Cars in the mix there has just got to be some knowledge amonst the members.

You know about the initial cost of the Porter-Cable 7424, but the pads aren't cheap either. Other than that I can't say anything bad about the PC. It's weird getting use to the weight of it after using a cheapo (you know you're using a real power tool when you hold it), but once you get that you fall in love it. If you decide to go the PC route I highly recommend Lake County pads. You'll save a bundle buying them on eBay, same goes for the PC (paid about $100 shipped for mine). I definitely wouldn't give up my PC...especially with how hard it is to keep a good shine on these great Chrysler paint jobs.

The PC is a great tool for maintaining a show quality finish. I have not tried the Lake's pads; I personally use the Meguiars Diamond Cut pads.

Not from your local club, but I use one in KS. I too used to kill the cheapies from Wal-Mart. Get one, you'll love it. Don't know why I was so apprehensive about using the foam pads. They rock.

If you can solve your problem, then what is the need of worrying? If you cannot solve it, then what is the use of worrying?

Meguiars has new pads that you can clean in the washing machine and dry them in the dryer.

get an Ultimate Detailing Machine or the Meguiars Version of the PC, there both a lil more powerful than a PC and wont bog down as easy, yet still user friendly and will not burn or damage the paint using the correct pads and products...

    Thank You Haz

Not anmyore for the UDM. The unit they were selling had too many breakdowns.

It's now known as the Ultimate Detailing Machine by Porter Cable. Which is just a relabeled 7424.

Likely Megs will be doing the same as their unit was the same as the old UDM.

You can't beat the quality of the Porter Cable, the thing just works. Period.
