Lowe's Dragway - zMAX - opens this weekend!

Anybody going? Looks like they are having street drags the first day!! They also have 4 lanes...
Definitely the premier 1/4 mile track in the country now

zMAX Dragway @ Concord will host a gala open house Saturday, Aug. 23, to celebrate the completion of the nation's newest race track. The event is free to the public and will include a variety of games and activities along with tours of the 125-acre facility.
Three-time NHRA Pro Stock champion Greg Anderson, of Concord, and nine-time NHRA Top Fuel winner Doug Herbert, of Lincolnton, will be on hand to greet fans and sign autographs. Several drag racing show cars will also be on display and the first 200 guests to register will be able to speed down the quarter-mile strip during street-legal drag races.
The first street-legal drag race is scheduled to match Concord Mayor Scott Padgett against Jay White, chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners.
"This open house is really a giant block party and we invite all of our neighbors and friends to come celebrate the greatest drag strip in the world," said Marcus Smith, president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway.
Tickets to the track's opening race, the NHRA Nationals on Sept. 11-14, will be given away throughout the event and there will be numerous inflatable play stations for children. A variety of refreshments will also be available for purchase.
Activities begin at 11 a.m. and continue until 3 p.m.
Known as the Bellagio of drag strips, zMAX Dragway @ Concord is the only drag strip in the world to feature four, all-concrete racing lanes. It has 30,000 seats, 40 plush luxury suites and the sport's finest starting-line tower.
zMAX Dragway @ Concord is located across Highway 29 from Lowe's Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., 12 miles north of downtown Charlotte. Take Exit 49 off I-85 and the dragway's main entrance is off Bruton Smith Blvd.
Information about the zMAX Dragway Open House an be obtained by contacting the Lowe's Motor Speedway community relations department at (704) 455-3241 or visiting the speedway's web site at http://www.lowesmotorspeedway.com/sc...ina_nationals/

Lots of stuff going on this weekend - doesn't look like that is something I could squeeze in, though it sounds like a good time!

4 lane dragstrip? Do they intend to run 4 up? I would like that for bracket racing as it would keep the sand baggers on the throttle to the end as they couldn't watch all four lanes at one time.

The main point of the four lanes is to have a spare set whenever somebody drops oil on the track. They just move over and keep running while cleanup is going on.
