As a proud Mopar owner and enthusiast, as well as a member of two (2) Mopar car clubs, I am turning to the Mopar family for some assistance.
The City of Hartford, Connecticut is only eighteen (18) square miles with a population of approximately one hundred twenty thousand (120,000) residents. However, we bear the responsibility of monitoring almost 12% for the state’s total Sex Offender population.
My partner and I are currently assigned to the Hartford Connecticut Police Department Sex Offender Registry Unit. We handle Sex Offender compliance of approximately six hundred fifty (650) registered Sex Offenders in the City of Hartford. We also investigate all crimes committed by released Sex Offenders against children / adults including but not limited to; child abductions, public acts of inappropriate sexual behavior and sexual assaults against children.
Unfortunately, many of these investigations are offensesagainst children as they are our most vulnerable and easy targets for Sexual Predators.
Our most recently assigned vehicle is a 1998 Crown Victoriathat has more rattles and shakes then I care to mention. We scrounge for parts at the city garage and try to take parts off crashed, ready to be disposed of patrol units. Unfortunately due to budget constraints, this is our situation. We were advised today that the transmission is in need of replacement and the car will most likely be removed from service.
As I type this, two additional Detectives whom were conductingan extradition of a Sex Offender in New Jersey were broken down on the side ofthe highway en route to pick up the Sex Offender. A tow truck and additional Detectives neededto respond to not only retrieve them and the vehicle but to ensure the SexOffender would be taken into custody. Should this individual not be extraditedfrom New Jersey, he would have been set free and released back into the public.
In the past two years my partner and I have made over onehundred forty five (145) arrests of Sexual Offenders and Serial SexualPredators. Ten (10) of which we tracked down to numerous locations outside ofConnecticut. We were responsible for their capture and extradition back to Connecticutto face charges. Normally we must drive to bring these fugitives back. Our cars are in such poor condition, we have used rental cars to make some of the trips. This is EXTREMELY unsafe as there is no way to properly secure a prisoner in a rental car.
So why am I bothering you with our troubles? I was informedshould a dealership wish to donate a car we could do the paperwork to allow itto happen. We are not looking for a new car by any means. Most anything wouldbe better than a 1998 Crown Victoria. I was hoping someone with contacts at a dealership might have a used Charger, even a Magnum they were looking to get a tax deduction and donate. I'm sure there would be a great press release andmedia attention surrounding such a helpful and selfless donation.
Thank you so much foranything you might be able to do and the victims of these unspeakable acts thank you as well.
