    Component Identification

Can someone tell me from this picure which one is the radius rod and which is the control arm? Or identify the arms if they are not either that I listed. I am interested in the Peddlers stuff but the Website is a long way from helpful when it comes to IDing this stuff. Thanks.

The arm with the tape on it is called the tension rod from Chrysler and we call it the radius rod arm. The arm that connects to the strut is the lower control arm.

    Thanks, guys.

FWIW, can this be a DIY job? I can get the arms off myself, and have access to a full maintenance shop with presses and tools, is it possible to change them that way? I live near Albany, work 60+ hours a week and have a 2 year old. Getting to a peddlers shop is not going to happen.

BTW the 'tape' is a DCX part tracking sticer from when warranty work was done two years ago because the bushings were bad. The car was making a groaning noise when turning left. They replaced both just to have the noise come back a week later. Then they changed the control arms. I am back in the same boat again.

One last thing, if I put the front on jack stands and let the tires hang down freely, are the struts at full extension then? IE: Just undo the bolt, remove the ball joint from the spindle, remove the bolt and its out?

    Hi Jay.

Taking the radius rod and lower control arms out is pretty easy. But the bushings will require a 10-12 ton press. A lot of guys do not have one. I do! LOL. But what you can do it take it to a machine shop and have them press the bushings in and out. I can help you in terms of what direction and clocking. So the answer is yes, with a hydraulic press

    WOW,

If a 80 ton cannot take her out, then we are all in trouble. LOL

Remember the bushings press in ONLY from the outside or forward position and they are clocked. This is explained in the instructions and is an important note.

    thanks

No, clocking means there is a specific rotational install location. the engineered voids are at 3 and 9 oclock on the bushing.

I found the bad bushing, passengers side control arm. The arm is right up against the cradle, you can slide the bushing on the steel sleeve.

Do you guys sell a discounted kit with just the radius arm and control arm bushing? I do not need the bump steer bushings.

Looking over the job: I remove the sway bar bushing mounts, remove the bolt for the control arm, strut and the ball joint. How do I get the ball joint out of the spindle? Go old school with a Pickle fork?

To get the balljount out, loosen the castle nut, then you can use a balljoint disconnect tool. Most shops, however, will wack the control arm at the balljoint eyelet with a big hammer, and normally the impact pops the balljoint loose.
