Remote mount Radar Install - How to (again...LOL)

    Hey Guys,

Thought I would post up my experience with doing an remote mount radar install. Not shown are the removal of the Glove Box, or the molding trim at the kick panel.

First I removed the pillar cover. Careful not to mess with the white string. It looks important..

Next I ran the wire from where the radar detector will go, to the right of the RV mirror, tucked it up into the headliner and down the pillar:

Next I used a fish line to drop the wire in from the top:

Then I tucked the wire into the little black holders used to hold the factory harness:

The wire is not hanging out in the GB cavity:

Next, I trimmed the spade connector of the power line with a dremmel tool to make it thin and narrow. The plan is to put it into the molex connector at the cig lighter. I used red "Liguid Tape" (Seen here: http://www.thetapeworks.com/liquid-tape.htm) to isolate any exposed metal.

Here is a better shot of it:

Next, I used a test light to find a common ground in the dash area. They are hard to find as most of this dash is plastic. Removing the front dash panel is easy. Stick your finger into the area where the top center vents are and pull gently but swiftly. It will sound HORRIBLE but, it is okay. The bottom section sounds worse because they use the friction lock type holders.

Finally found one under the radio.

Next I inserted my power lead into the molex connector of the cig lighter and wire tied it to the existing harness to insure it does not come out:

Here are some shots for clarity:

Finally, put everything back and this is where it will live:

Nice and clean job! I know it's too late now but I know several people have also tapped into the power from the connector on the back of the mirror. That would be much easier.

$15 sounds like a lot for a piece of wire with an RJ11 on one end and pin connectors on the other but it looks like it would save a lot of time.
