    Long day....

So, today i played in a 100 person Texas Hold 'Em Poker tournament today. Last man standing wins entry to the World Series Main event. That's a $10,000 buy in (entry fee) Paid in full, PLUS $1000 cash to spend (or do what ever with). Well I survived a LONG time and ended up going heads up with another guy. I made the final two. When it got down to just the two of us...we had the EXACT same amount of chips. Not a penny difference. The probability of that is ...SUPER HIGHLY unlikely. Anyhow, i take a chip lead...he takes the chip lead...I take it back, then he goes up by about 2000 chips (at this point 2000 chips is nothing). Well i have 4 to a flush and he makes a silly bet. Not only did i have 4 to a flush but i also had 4 to a straight. his bet made me think he was trying to "BUY" the pot. Sooo i went "ALL IN". He instantly called. He had a pair of Jacks, I had a flush draw AND a straight draw. a Jack comes and a small red card came. He won.

I think it was a silly call, but it was the right play. It was a silly bet on my part to go ALL IN with draws, but the math says I had a TON of outs. ANY of the 9 remailing spades, any of the 4 tens, or the 4 fives. 17 cards could have won the hand for me. As it is, I played near perfect poker and I had a BLAST. I still get paid if that guy makes the money at the WSOP. I sure would rather be playing but OH WELL, he had the better hand when it counted the most.

    Thanks for reading...

Thats pretty cool. But how does that work, You still get paid if he wins. Also, didnt you get any thing for second.

We all signed contracts that state if the winner makes money at the WSOP...the player keeps HALF and the other 9 players at the final table split the other half. Its a steep split but it works based on what we all paid to play. trust me its a good deal, and no second place, it was winner take all.

hmmmm....CenCalLX poker tournament...anyone wanna do that? 20-30 dollar buy in?

As far as I'm concerned, you are a winner in my book. Glad to see you had a blast.

Nice story, SB! I only enjoy playing poker on the machines or one of those wacky types against the dealer, though. Good job, though, making it as far as you did! I hope the guy who won goes all the way so you can become a rich man and then you can hire Mark Zamzow to personally detail your car anytime you want, lol!

    Very impressive Aaron.
Was that held at a local Indian casino? What was the buy in?
Do you do that sort of thing often? You must have a lot of live tabel experience right.
Sorry for all of the questions. It's something I've never done but always wanted to.

Count me in on the CenCalLX tourney if it happens.
Of coarse the "when, where and time" may dictate things but I would love to participate.

I love to play but don't know many people that play. I would love to play at a live table.

    Thanks, Dave

Wow, good job. I dream of going to a WSOP, but have never played in a serious tourney. So close, I bet you had fun at least.

I'd be down for a CenCal tourney. Who's got a big enough place?

10 out of 10 times I would have done the same thing heads up! Don't beat yourself up over it. Its just the way the cards fall sometimes. Congrats on making your way through the field, and taking second, IMO that is nothing to complain about.

Nice job anyway Aaron!! Speaking of WSOP, Doyle Brunson just had his annual beer pong challenge at this bar I hang out at when I'm in Vegas. Several of the WSOP guys were there too.

    Dave,

It was set up by some guys here in San Jose. Contracts were drawn up and all sorts of legal paperwork was drawn up. I play live poker at least once a week. I love to play. I finished 46th in a 14,000 person tournament on Full Tilt Poker 2 years ago. Beating out many of the big time pros we all know and love. HOWEVER, I dont know how seriously the pros take ON-LINE tourneys. I have also played live cash games at Garden City and a Casino in Jackson, as well as Las Vegas. I'm actually gonna go to Vegas in a couple of months and will probably play there again. Nothing to HIGH STAKES.

I think the best thing to do if you like playing is to organize a weekly game. If you send an email out to the people you know in your area saying who wants in every Wed. night (or what ever night you choose) you'd be surprised at the amount of people playing these days.

our weekly game is $20 buy in and a $10 bounty. If you knock someone out you get the 10 bux. So you can make some serious dough if you knock a few people out . We raise blinds every 15 minutes and allow unlimited rebuys for the 1st hour. It's great because it REALLY builds a nice size purse (winnings). We normally have between 10- and 18 people. Assuming you can win (or place) it's a great way to earn MOD money

In 2007 I played so much poker (and won), i actually made more money playing poker than i did in Real Estate.

Thanks all for the kind words. I was SUPER excited to have made it to 2nd place, but my goal was to win it all. I was REALLY happy for the guy who won. He played the game right and he was a wonderful opponent. there is nothing WORSE than losing to a guy that makes horrible play after horrible play and makes it to the end. Not the case this day. We both played great cards.

Thanks again everyone for the supportive words.
