Tow Truck In Black Runs a What?

Some of you fellas know I have been waiting over 6 months to get my ProChargum back to the track and in the meantime I bought a used 2006 F250 Powerstroke to drive around and to pull my race trailer. I call it the tow truck in black:

When my ProChargum wasn't ready for zMax earlier this month, I decided to go ahead and run my truck at a test-n-tune at Atlanta Dragway on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

With over 135 gallons of fuel on board, I weighed in at 7775 lbs. at the track.

    I was thinking maybe a 17.xx

I was personally surprised at this outcome:

I guess guys who know these diesel trucks would have expected that and better, but I had no idea.

15.172 at 89.08 with a 2.152 60'? I mean come on, a 2.152 60' at 7775 lbs.? There are guys here who don't do that consistently with some LX's as far as I know.

Anyway, apparently the CAI, Turbo-back 4" Magnaflow and the mild SCT street tune really did produce the 425HP and 800+ lbs. of torque that was promised (the 1/4 mile HP/torque calculators online back that up for what that's worth).

    Zowie.

I'm glad I have my radar detector and laser detector/jammers hooked up on that thing.

    It scoots.

Now I just need to get the ProChargum sorted out.

Very nice Lou, especially for a big old tank. One of these days I will have to run my 6.0L Excursion down the track, I have basically the same mods, but with a "EXTREME" tune (wells thats what the company called it...LOL).

Now get that car sorted out...I heard from a very reliable source that it should be very soon. I can't wait to see some BIG numbers! Not to mention I need that pulley set-up you got LOL.

Well, it has been a bit tedious figuring out how to make all the moving parts fly in tight formation on that thing, but I think I've got the right team working on it here in South Florida at the moment: my crew chief, Lopez; FixerDave & Johan DiabloToona. The current issues are pulley config and belt reliability along with injector size/tunability.

We may hit the dyno with it this Tuesday, but given recent experience that may just reveal the next set of issues to resolve, huh?

Maybe lighting will strike and we'll get lucky this time.

Actually, that's faster than many 3.5's...

Ya know Lou... it's really gonna stink if your tow-vehicle can outrun your Chargum!

    Please don't let that happen!

Well, I've actually heard the ProChargum run and we actually got one mild pull on the dyno before the first cog belt broke. 752RWHP with the wrong injectors, only 12 degrees of timing and about 12 psi. I think my only problem with the ProChargum is going to be the back end trying to get down the track ahead of the front end. It sure sounds nice, though.

So, if it's .1 secs for every 100 pounds, then emptying that tank on the back would give you an extra second :\

    Currently:
MBRP Cat-Back, Predator. Hoping I will get my AEFIS, or atleast some of my money back now

    Future:
Go to save up and work on making the fastest N/A engine out there. Everyone needs goals, no?

That is going to be sick once the belt issues are put aside and tuning is complete. I've seen issues like that when a weaker mounting bracket allows twisting and pitch change under load. Hope that thing is super beefy and at least an inch thick of metal.

The newer 6.4L powerstroke diesels are even better. Them oil burners can really move with just a little tuning.

No one was more surprised than me. I have to admit that the thing isn't exactly having the ticket-calming effect I was shooting for (at least not without the trailer hooked to it). It will scoot from 60 to 95 MPH in the blink or two of an eye.

I've already had one chat with the friendly constabulary in Perry, GA. (Worth it, though.)

I'm thinking that if I burned off 1000 lbs of fuel, mine would be there also.

I doubt I'll take it to the track again, though--I need it for other things.
