    Spring Fling Draging

Hey So Cal boy , Can we setup some kind of Drag event for Spring Fling this year maybe that friday evening or night . I checked Qualcom schedule and they are closed that friday. I wanna give them a call but i wanna see who's intrested in running that friday. So everyone that intrested let me know so i can get a head count so i can make some calls and hopefully set something up. I know there has to be a handful of tracks in So Cal.

Count me in if it happens, But I don think you'll find a track open friday night. You do know were running Sunday already at Ozzie's track event. 1/4 mile and auto cross.

How about we don't crap on the already scheduled event and give them the support they need instead? As in showing some appreciation -- and at the least, respect -- for the very hard work and financial outlay members are going to in order to bring people a track day?

A day that is - financially - entirely separate from SF and needs all the support it can get to cover the enormous separate costs of putting it on.

    Just a thought.

EDIT: Another - entirely personal - thought: If you are going to go to a separate event that sucks participants away from the SF day, then go do it, but don't insult the many hard-working SF organizers, volunteers and member-financiers by attending SF. Pick one or the other but not both, and by all means enjoy yourself.

Where'd that come from? , Got nothing but respect and full support for the SF as well as Ozzie's track day, Some folks dont party Matt, If you remember Meister ran Qualcom's last year on friday night was that a issue? Maybe I missed something.
I'm down for all local track events. Saturdays a full S.F schedule as is Sunday.
Friday night is wide open unless your at the Dbl tree suckin'm down or mingling. Its all good.

It has nothing to do with the Friday party and everything to do with supporting the track event thats already on schedule.

What I'm saying is there are people making decisions as to whether they will participate in the Sunday track event. Any type of event that detracts from the Sunday event hurts it. If someone says to themselves "I would have done Sunday but instead I will do Friday" then the Friday event has just eliminated someone from Sunday participation.

You know the people involved. And you should know that people are spending their own money to make things happen... and there is a steep minimum participation level needed to break even.

Why $hit on that and them?

I'm not saying you would do it deliberately. And perhaps I was a bit harsh in how I phrased it given the potential consequences... but deliberate or not the net effect would be to pull people away to at least some degree from the Sunday event.

Gonna have to wait for his announcement, but lets just say you should change your status from unsure to participant. You wont be disappointed.

If it IS open, California Speedway on Friday night (3/14) sounds great!

That's 45 miles from the Spring Festival in Irvine. Ozzie's SpeedFest will be an all-day event on Sunday March 16, and will feature a bitchin' autocross and a 1/4 mile sprint. For the 1/4 mile we'll be simply tearing up an airstrip. No pressure, lotsa fun, (and a great introduction to dragracing for the uninitiated).

We WILL have proper timing equipment, but it won't be an NHRA-sanctioned, fully VHT prepped professional dragstrip. So for you "serious" racer types, I'd go to the Speedway, Friday (if it IS open), lay down some personal best E.T's, then come on over to El Toro Airbase in Irvine on Sunday for some relaxed fun, games, giveaways, and prizes. It will be open to ALL Mopar rides, all day. Cost will be $95.00 for the whole day, run both autocross and sprint as many times as you can. We have some great prizes to give away.

Oh, and we'll need some help from some experienced dragracing folks to help run the sprints, if anyone is interested.

More details will be posted up this week on the El Toro event.
