Running Slicks Report, MUST READ if you plan on running them!

Sorry its been a few weeks and I have not got around to writing this report, As many of you know Im now running a 15" HHP racing rear wheel, A new mini rear drag brake set up, And MandH 27x10x15" Biased Ply Slick. Let start with the rear brake set up, I was fortunate to have Todd at TCE put together a custom rear drag brake set up for me that consisted of a 4 piston Wilwood rear caliper, A custom Rotor that retains the rear emergency brake, and new quick connect SS lines. The custom Bracket needed to run these was made by Todd for me and I must say he did a outstanding job, I also wanna thank "Junior" for letting us use his car for the fitment in Az prior to the final machine work by Todd. Everything was plug/play on the brakes, BUT!! and I say that boldly, there are quite a few mods necessary to the rear end to make the wheel fit once the brakes are small enough, There's the end links that need modifying, and the control arm/Bushing and the rear knuckle needs some enhancments.

Cam handled all the modifications like a Champ! Ive never heard the man say No! Or it cant be done. Whether its fabricating, Installing, Modifying, etc! Not to mention he's great company! Thanks for all the help my friend, Hopefully I can return the favor's some day. Anything the HHPChallenger does is a direct reflection of his hard work and effort.
He just keeps moving forward, Ive seen more work come out of that shop over the past 3 weeks then when I was over at the shop in HB for 6 months or better.

Back to the matter at hand, SLICKS, So I went to Irwindale to test thses bad boys so I wasnt running them back East for the first time. This is were it gets hairy fellas, The slicks Im running are a Bias Ply, Im running tubes in them, 15lbs of air, There like balloons , I was told to be careful as there not like radials, and the rear end will feel like its moving slightly from left to right, Dont over steer or compensate just try and keep it smooth, , Easier said then done my friends and Ill tell you why in a few, So I take my first pass on these badboys and let me tell you that was a very scary pass!! I stalled to 2k and matted the pedal, Full Hook up! There I went, And then there goes the rear end!! OMFG! just like they said, I completely let out of it, Then matted it again! Ran a 7.1 1/8th. And was tripping out on the new loose feel! Nothing like running on DR's fellas nothing at all! Now keep in mind Im running a Non-Bias Radial front runner, And there lies the problems fellas, Not good at all! NO NO NO! Dont do this! Ive been in constant contact with John at MandH, he told me the radial likes to cut down the track and will enhance that loose feeling 10 fold! Im now being shipped a Bias ply Front runner that will eliminate ALL the loose feel and put me back on track to be running solid and in full control, I only ran the 1/8th and got out of it every time at 100 mph's, Not sure how much worse it would have gotten had I ran the 1/4 mile and reached speeds of 130mph.
Once John told me why the loose feel was happening and how we could fix the issue I thought it be best to let you all no right away. I know alot of you are planning on running the Hoosier 28" slick and I felt it best to warn all of you of the dangers of not running a Bias ply front tire. In no way am I trying to knock PPP's Hoosier group buy, No way no how, Had I not run this set up Id of never known, I don't want to see folks hitting the wall at high speeds out of ignorance. Ive lost sleep wondering about that loose feeling at 130+ on my East Coast Atco day and now I feel 110% better after MandH told me the how/whys of this phenomena. So a word to the wise for all you planning on running true rear slicks, Be carefull, talk to the manufacturer and dont take chances, No time slip in the world is worth hitting the wall my friends.

    Heres the pics.

Redfox, I believe thats the one Im running now and its not the right one, I could be wrong but that looks just like the ones I got now, Does yours say radial on them? If it does there not the right ones. Best to call John Bro at MandH they got 50years plus experience.
I think the ones we want are these.

I not ever planning on running slicks and glad to hear you didn't lose it and do any damage, but I love looking at your car and it does look bad a** with the slicks on it

Id run DR's Nathan then, Especially with the boost you run and the fact thats its been so long since you ran, In fact Id de-tuned that sucker and take baby steps. Just like 12's are not like running 11's, 10's is another level, Ive puckered up a few times in the last few weeks!! . Im being serious Nathan.

Got down to a 1.64 that night, But keep in mind I could only stall to 2k with the new trannis line pressures on my old convertor, I got a new convertor going in this week, much more stall, I can now launch in while boost! Big big step up! In my mind Ill be cutting 1.5X's at Atco with no worries at all!

Pretty sneaky Chris, finding how fast your car was on Slicks and you try to scare everyone else into not getting them with front runners...... sneaky sneaky
