Killed a Corvette C6 at the Track

Went to our home track last Wednesday and had a chance to race against a C6 Corvette. The track opens its doors around 8:00 pm and the actual 1/4 mile track opens for racing at 8:30 pm... Anyway, I like to get there early to let the car cool down for about an hour before I do my first pass, so I got to the track at 8:00 pm, turned off the engine, install the 25 cent mod, put the ice on top of the intake and waited until the car temp hit around 125 degrees.

So as soon as the track opened for racing, there was this dark silver 2007 C6 Corvette on the line, waiting its turn. The corvette ran for the first time and finished with an ET of 13.21. The temperature was around 75 degrees, so I had no idea how my Charger SRT8 would do against the corvette, since I've seen my car with ET's of 13.60 and 12.90, depending on the DA.

I did not had plans on racing the corvette but I usually like to look for races against cars that I’m not supposed to beat, so I waited for another 30 minutes, checked the engine temp of my car and as soon as it was at 128 degrees, I decided to hit the track and got behind a 2 car lane, there was no one next to me or behind, and just before it was my turn, the corvette got next to me, the driver rolled his window down and asked me if I wanted to race and I said ok… I really thought this guy was going to beat me, but I thought it would be a close race.

So we got to the lights did a quick burn out and checked my cars temp; it was at 145 degrees so I was ready... the lights turned green and we took off... by the 1/8 of a mile I was a full car in front of the corvette; right before the end of the race I looked in my rearview mirror and saw the corvette about 2 cars lengths behind my Charger SRT8... I thought that the guy had let off the gas, since he was way back, but he didn’t; he had an ET of 13.20 and I had an ET of 12.98 @ 110...

After the race I was looking for the guy on the corvette, but apparently he didn’t like the way the race ended and took off. Anyway, this is one of the few times that you will see my friends with out a video camera at the track. I would love to have this race on video, but still I’m very happy with the result... I bet there were a lot of guys at the track that day that could not believe that a 4,200 pound, four door would kill a C6 Corvette by that much... I'm one of them, I thought I was going to get spanked....

That's not just a win, that's an arse whooping! You understood how important it is to keep the motor temp low and ice on the intake. He probably had to go home cause he pissed his pants!

I've seen as big a difference as .30 seconds in my ETs just by racing the car at around 150 degrees instead of 185 degrees.... so it does make a big difference...

Doubt it. The guy ran within .01 of his first run, he's probably a pro!
Since it wasn't a z06, the time seems about right.
Went home with his tail between his legs, but then probably ordered $15,000 worth of engine mods that night.

Congrats on your win. Not trying to take anything away from you here but the guy had to be a novice judging by his time. As a C6 owner I can tell you these cars will run 12.80 plus or minus a little in stock form. A 13.20 is way slow for a C6. Anyway a race is a race an you won fair and square.
