ESP Question...
I have a basically stock 2008 MSRT-8. The only mods are an Injen CAI and the Predator. Like so many of us with lightly modded cars, I found that the 91 Octane CAI Predator tune with all the usual changes, raised shift points, rev limiter, etc., slightly enriched (3%,5%.5% across the range) seems to work best. With this setup and a relatively cool night I ran a best of 13.08 @ 110.71mph. This was on VReds 275/40/20 with 34 PSI cold. The track was US 13 Dragway in Delaware and average temp was around 50 deg. What surprised me was how well the car hooked up. A little (no water) burn to clean the tires and absolutely no wheel spin at the line! Runs were all consistant with the best being when the car was cool (170 deg at the line).
My next visit was last Friday to E-town where everyone seemed to think I would run better. It was warmer, about 70 degrees, and again I had no problem hooking up with the same tire settings. My first two runs were somewhat disappointing 13.3 @ 105 back to back with a warm engine. I should mention that I had the ESP fully off (switch on dash held for 6 seconds) but I had read that even that leaves some protection in place. I decided to put in 5 gallons of unleaded race fuel, up the tune to the 93 CAI (no changes) and turn off the ESP with the Predator. I cleaned the tires (still not aired down) and staged. Using the recommended "roll into full throttle" method, the tires went completely up in smoke and the transmission was in 3rd gear before I could catch it. Needless to say, that run was a waste of time and gas. Also, since it was very busy, I was not able to get another try.
My question is, does everyone turn off the ESP with the Predator and if so do you air down stock tires to 24 PSI? Also, it's been a good many years since I have been to the track and things have definitely changed. Can anyone recommend a better track or night to enable more runs for test/tuning? I live on Long Island so I am limited in distance, etc. I appreciate any input regarding this, thanks.
